I think these are the lyrics:

18th of July on the banks of a not-well-known river
I started a journey to where I am now
A troubled soul, breath taker
I was guided by the dreams of my creator
Towards a rhythm and rhyme
A melody line of a song called freedom
Which, once heard, will not leave your head
And it will be as you want it to be
If you can love what you see
Everything is going to be alright
And the life you get to have
Is the one you give away
To forget who, to forgive is a good thing

Walk out into the street
Sing your heart out
This love cannot be beat
I'm neither down or out
There's nothing you have that I need
While I can breathe

All those who stood together
Fist in air, now know this
That real division is not a scar on the land
But in the heart of a man, who began
As a kiss, not to resist a knotted fist
Now an open hand, an open face, an open page
Whose history might rewrite its rage

Walk out into the street
Sing your heart out
This love cannot be beat
I'm neither down or out
There's nothing you have that I need
While I can breathe

We are people born of sound
The songs are in our eyes
Gonna wear them like a crown

Walk out into the street
Sing your heart out
This love cannot be beat
I'm neither down or out
There's nothing you have that I need
While I can breathe
Free
I was always free

Salt in your eyes
Well, it stings and burns
Till every heart is as fire
As it yearns
I felt my life slip away
Into someone else's song
40 in the shade
And the game was all wrong

Lol. Tis true. But I still enjoy alternate versions none the less. Too bad we don't get to hear the whole thing. Thanks for those who have given us a chance to hear it.

k ill take a chopped up awkward sounding edit over hearing friggin Oprah go on and Anonymous Talking Head Woman #1 <ATHW1>

The first woman, though very assertive-sounding (I believe "assertive woman" is a codeword for something) had a cool South Africa accent. The lady in the middle reminded me of Oprah's friend Gayle. At least "Gayle" had a cool story of Madiba recognizing her! lol

anyway, Bono talk: wow, I can't believe he offered up the song to the film (source: atu2.com). Yeah, obviously the filmmakers are not huge Bono/U2 fans, by taking a rare version and using it as a BACKGROUND SOUND to the END CREDITS interview bits. And by having very little Bono in the film, apparently.

I love hearing early versions/demos of U2 songs, just to see what they kept or didn't use in the final recording.  :D

The first woman is Christiane Amanpour, a reporter for CNN. The second is actress Alfre Woodard.

Isn't there a thread that's dedicated to demos and audio gems?  ???
