Atoms For Peace - AMOK

Could this be the first interesting album of 2013? What I've heard sounds terribly addictive, fans of Kid A should be happy.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxWBd840E9g

The one song I've heard wasn't interesting at all.   :(

The early preview songs were boring, but I'm listening to the stream on http://amok.atomsforpeace.info/ and the first song is better than those.

Better than anything else Thom has done in the last 10 years IMO
Preordered it on vinyl

Now that's dedication. Not sure I can bring myself to stump up that much. I'm trying to get hold of the vinyl single though. And when you say 10 years, you mean solo stuff right? He will have to go some to get anywhere near In Rainbows (and some of King Of Limbs) without his band around him IMO.

the songs i heard <the singles i'm guessing?> reminded me WAY to much of Eraser which was a huge huge let down

Hmm I suppose it didn't really connect with me either, apart from the brilliant Harrowdown Hill. I will put it on again and see what's changed. AMOK seems to have more eclectic sounds though.

I'm talking Radiohead to. In Rainbows was great but I think I'll enjoy this more.

I'm liking it, but I'm odd... I actually liked the Eraser, and I like TKOL, which seems to be unpopular with Radiohead and Thom Yorke fans. I am happy they put things out there that are different, although I won't go as far as saying this is the best thing he's had a hand in in 10 years.  I'll have to give it some time to decide on that.

Yea i'm sure it's not. I can't imagine i'll like it more than HTTT. or maybe not IR either. The Eraser and KOL are easily my least favorites of the Yorke/RH discography

I can't wait for me to get ahold of the vinyl. It looks very high quality. I couldn't afford the foil embossed deluxe vinyl though

After listening to it all the way through, I don't really hear its sound being that different from the Eraser considering the presence of a band.  I like the Eraser, but another album of the same isn't necessarily going to be better.  But that is only after one listen.  I definitely won't be liking it more than other RH releases.  Then again, I didn't think much of TKOL until I heard it through my full stereo system at high volume.  There are definite advantages to listening to these albums on high quality equipment.  MP3 quality streams and low quality speakers don't help them at all.
