Turn back to popmart as a whole, the bands first website (this internet thing will never catch on) was u2popmart.msn.com

Microsoft got behind them in a big way.

Interesting that U2 have been officially sponsored by Microsoft, Apple and Blackberry. I love em but it doesn't say much for their convictions...

Utoogle - The Android Tour.

Coming soon.

But I guess sponsors were cool in the 90's...gotta love the consistency of U2 fans. It doesn't say anything about their convictions that they haven't been saying all along, yes.

U2 were never sponsored by Microsoft...building up their website hardly counts.

who were the popmart sponsors ?

"Initially, the band announced they were looking for sponsors to support the tour,[8] but they later decided to instead use a single promoter for financial assistance"

How is Zep more of a brand then "U2 brought to you by Blackberry" ?

Zep isn't even close to being a "brand". They didn't even release singles!

Look at all of the Zeppelin merchandise sold now. They weren't a brand when they were around but they are now.

All 3rd party.

Not self-promotion a la Kiss to whom you compared them.

Zeppelin did/do very little merchandising/self promotion.

They're the anti-Kiss in that regard.

They owned their own master tapes and were on their own record label. No livenation/apple/rim type tie ins.

U2 is more of a "brand" than Zep ever was.

Whilst it's not on the same scale as blackberry or ipod, you don't think Microsoft handed over money for the 'honour' of building U2's popmart web presence?

I'm not here to split hairs, I just thought it was interesting that U2 have derived, in some way, money from Apple, Blackberry and Microsoft. Made me chuckle.

Fair enough.

U2, sponsored by Facebook.

Man, they are behind with the whole Internet thing.
