RIP, Alan Vega. Lead singer of NYC punk legends Suicide, dead at 78.

Suicide brought keyboards (along with The Stranglers) and drum machines (pretty  much by themselves) to punk rock back in the mid-'70s. Massively influential, even if so many of the people who followed in their footsteps didn't know they were doing so.

Damn, if it wasn't for him, hip hop wouldn't be the same (even if he did lead to N.W.A's demise).

Greg Lake, who fronted both King Crimson and Emerson, Lake and Palmer, has died aged 69.

2016 continues to take its toll on musicians.  A lot of them are going to breath a sigh of relief on New Year's Day.

Listening to I Believe in Father Christmas right now, one of my all-time favourite Christmas songs.

Status Quo guitarist Rick Parfitt has died in hospital in Spain aged 68, his manager has said.

He died from a severe infection after going to hospital on Thursday following complications to a shoulder injury.

Parfitt's musical partnership with Francis Rossi, which spanned five decades, made Status Quo one of British rock's most enduring acts.

He had been due to launch a solo career with an album and autobiography planned for 2017.

Status Quo found global success with hits including Rockin' All Over The World.

2017 is off and running where 2016 left off.

Larry Steinbachek, former keyboardist with 1980s synthpop group Bronski Beat, has died at the age of 56.

Not music-related but sad to hear of the death of Graham Taylor, former England And Watford Football Club Manager, at the age of 72.  Do I not like that.

There is a U2 connection, of course, in that he was the recipient of a phone call on the Zooropa Tour!

That was my favourite Zooropa phone call that I got to witness - the whole crowd singing "you'll never walk alone" on the answerphone message.  Wonderful show moment - someone has upped it on youtube too: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login  RIP Graham Taylor
