Suggestion to U2 - Live approach:
1. For the love of Yaweh, please retire some of the workhorses (bullet, sunday bloody, pride, one, etc)
2. Have the courage to play some hidden gems (crumbs, acrobat, sweetest thing, when i look @ world, etc)
3. Bring back some fantastic older songs featured in many past tours (bad, until end world, kite, gloria, etc)
4. Obviously, still highlighting (mostly) amazing new album (7-8 tracks), with expanded versions?

opening - morocco ambient

no line on the horizon
even better than the real thing
magnificent
until the end of the world
unknown caller
crumbs from your table (or *when I look at the world)
breathe
do you feel loved
moment of surrender (with some 'your blue room' thrown in)
please (or *kite)
iíll go crazy if I donít go crazy tonight
sweetest thing (or *electrical storm)
get on your boots (hate it, but they must play it)
beautiful day
new years day
fez-being born
where the streets have no name
with or without you

encore 1

zooropa / seconds medley
vertigo
in godís country

encore 2

acrobat
gloria
bad
cedars of lebanon

(*alternates - rotate every other show)

Wire
All I want is You
Heartland
Last Night on Earth (I loved most of POP!)

I've been thinking that a great way for U2 to stick it to their critics who say that they've lost their edge and are simply playing it safe would be to do the following on the upcoming tour:

1). Begin the set with Fez - Being Born
2). End the set with Unknown Caller
3). Play the whole album (minus one track, see #8).
4). Have the setlist lean heavily on their '90s material.
5). In light of #4, scrap the familiar stuff like Mysterious Ways and One and replace them with songs like Acrobat, Zooropa, and even Lady With the Spinning Head.
6). Scrap all the '80s favorites like I Will Follow or Pride and, if they're going to play their '80s stuff at all, reintroduce songs like Exit or something akin to the Bono/Adam version of Tomorrow.
7). As for their new millennium stuff, play Electtrical Storm, Fast Cars, and Crumbs From Your Table during the part of the set when they play Crazy Tonight.
8 ). Don't play Get On Your Boots (!)

Can you imagine if U2 had the balls to try something like this? They would prove once and for all that they're not a greatest hits band, and their not going to rest on their laurels and be unwilling to venture into unfamiliar territory.

Will this work for you?

Fez -- Being Born
No Line On The Horizon
Magnificent
Stand Up Comedy
I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight
Beautiful Day
Fast Cars
White As Snow
Tower of Song (Leonard Cohen)
Moment of Surrender
One
Kite
Breathe
City of Blinding Lights
Vertigo

[Encore]

Where The Streets Have No Name
Window In The Skies
Electrical Storm
Unknown Caller
Cedars Of Lebanon

I agree with most of your ideas, but I think the concert should end with Cedars of Lebanon; it follows in that U2 tradition of the last track on the album tends to be a slower, more ethereal number.

I don't want to hear...

Bullet
Sunday Bloody Sunday

Neither of these have the political impact anymore, and it's been obvious the past couple of tours with Bono trying to appropriate Bullet for the US troops in the middle east. It's a song about American economic and military sanctions at the core and doesn't work anymore.

Pride

The obama thing sounded awful - Bono just can't sing it anymore.

I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
Stuck in a Moment

Blech. IMO They've got better songs than these on B sides from 1979

Happy to hear anything from the new album, that's what it's about to me, and how it marries up with the older stuff. I see this tour as being an opportunity to get a couple of Unforgettable Fire tunes back into the mix, they fit better with the NLOTH sound. Would love to hear Wire or TUF. After showing their keen-ness to look a looong way back on the last tour (Electric Co, An Cat Dubh, Into The Heart) I'd love to hear A Day Without Me. I'd love for them to get Original of the Species right - It's the best song on Atomic Bomb IMO.

I don't think for a second they'll play stuff like Acrobat, So Cruel, Crumbs from your table etc.

Most of all what I'd like to see is them mix it up more than they have lately. I saw 7 shows on the Vertigo tour and the variations really were not that marked. They're a band that do attract the multiple concert goer, so perhaps it's time to live by their moral 'if it keeps us interesting, it's not gunna be B.S. for you'.

okay i didn't read half of these, so i dont expect anyone will read mine, some of these here are fantasy set lists, i wish they'd play acrobat too, it's my fav song of all time, but lets be realistic, the most important thing is that they show this is the new u2 and dont do a greatest hits of the 80's tour (remember the zoo tv set list, sometimes the first 8 songs were new!).

Another thing to keep in mind is during some of the dates, some songs may be added in that are favorites to the local fans in strong U2 markets (Dublin, Boston and New York come to mind specifically). Likewise I am sure they will do something on the October 9th Tampa date in honor of John Lennon's birthdate (Instant Karma perhaps)

i tihnk they've got to do some Pop songs.  The feel of this tour for me seems very similar to Popmart, so it makes sense they'd stick a few in there.  Maybe Gone?  That's one of my alltime faves and I think it would fit sonically.

As for the WOWY and Streets and Pride discussion.  C'mon, they're going to play those.  They will play Streets every single night.  And WOWY and Pride will be played but I wouldn't be surprised if they skipped it a bunch of times, esp in cities they're playing multiple nights.  Same for Bullet and SBS and I Still Haven't Found.

I don't expect an early-years revival like the Boy sets we had on Vertigo.  Maybe two or three gems that havent been played in years sprinkled throughout the tour (again not every night).

I also tihnk they won't play moment of surrender.  I hope they don't.

Dirty Day would fit nicely.  I bet we get a little Window in the Skies too.

Now, in a perfect world, I'd like to hear Exit.

Anything that includes A Sort of Homecoming, UF, Wire, Two Hearts, Surrender, I Threw a Brick, A Day Without Me, Exit, Ultraviolet just to name a few would make me a happy camper.

I have to be realistic, as much as  I would like, they are unlikely to play So cruel, Daddy's gonna pay... or Playboy Mansion so here are some songs I would love to hear on the tour:

Exit (would slot nicely into the set in place of the tired bullet the blue sky)
Ultraviolet
Gone
Original of the Species
Who's gonna ride your wild horses (sounded great in Glasgow in 2005)
running to stand still
a sort of homecoming
God part 2
When I look at the world
electric co
Hold me thrill me kiss me kill me

I could also do without some of these established regulars:

I will follow
Bullet the blue sky
Vertigo
Beautiful day
mysterious ways
desire

But really the only song I would really love to hear is Angel of Harlem. They only seem to play it every other show and I am always at the other gig.
