I haven't listened to all of Muse's albums but Absolution is the only one that I truly like as an album.

Seems like everyone is only choosing albums they love...

So here's one that I was looking forward to and didn't quite deliver...

Favorite: City with no Children
Runner Up: Sprawl II
Underrated: Suburban War
Overrated: Roccoco
Overall: 6/10 - This was the album that would ultimately break them into the consciousness of the wider population via their grammy win, but as albums go this was a bloated offering that promised a solid theme (suburban middle class life) but lost its way through the middle, incoherence and an overblown tracklist that is about 5 to 6 songs too heavy.

Incidentally I felt a similar way about Reflektor but that one has grown on me a lot (possibly due to seeing stuff live?) but the Suburbs is just a middling album for me. Great stuff like Sprawl, Month of May and City with No Children is bogged down by things liek Roccoco, Modern Man, Wasted Hours and Deep Blue.

Favorite: In Hiding
Runner-up: Do the Evolution
Least Favorite: Red Dot (Track 8 )
Underrated: No Way
Overrated: probably Given to Fly but I love it

Score out of ten: 9/10

Over or under rated?: There are a couple of popular PJ songs on this one (even if they weren't chart toppers) but I think this album is very underrated. It's different at times but I think that every track is great in its own way.

Spot on review (although I felt Wishlist was more over-rated, mostly because I find it a bleh song compared to Given to Fly).

Yeah, I like that song but I would agree with that.

Anyone know the title of the instrumental hidden track?

Favorite: Starlings
Runner-up: Grounds for Divorce
Least Favorite: An Audience with The Pope (still a good song though)
Underrated: Some Riot, The Fix (brilliant duet with Richard Hawley)
Overrated: One Day Like This (slightly overused anthem for football matches, and the Olympics)

Score out of ten: 9/10

You certainly don't win a Mercury Prize for nothing.

Amazing album.

The late Bryan Glancy is the inspiration behind the album.
A very close friend of Guy Garvey (and the band).

You can read Guy's tribute in this blog from 2006.

Ultravox - Lament

Favorite: One Small Day
Runner Up: White China
Underrated: Lament
Overrated: Dancing With Tears In My Eyes

Overall: 8.5/10 - You know, a condition of getting old is finding yourself claiming a certain new group are some fans or borrowers of content from previous great bands. To this end, I can't help hearing Ultravox' traits when I hear much of Muse's stuff. To their credit, they do seem to be getting better and they are great performers so I'm gradually learning to appreciate them more ...

but back when Midge Ure was part of the act, Ultravox put out two great albums (Lament and Vienna), one really good album (Rage in Eden) and one OK effort (Quartet). It's a shame they never got the respect or coverage they deserved outside the UK or Europe, or at least on this side of the pond. Be well.
