1980 live fan club release
« on: November 26, 2014, 08:07:39 PM »
Anyone have thoughts on what show was recorded?

What we know: "Recorded in a small club, with just a few hundred passionate fans, this vintage live set captures a time when the band were taking songs like The Electric Co, I Will Follow and Out of Control on the road across Ireland and the UK."

I want it to be one of the following two shows. I have them (on very poor bootleg quality) and REALLY want to hear Father IS An Elephant.

Not sure but I doubt it will be something that has not surfaced yet. The Boston show included in the iTunes Complete U2 a few years ago would make sense but it was a 1981 show.

It could be the National Stadium show since "Cartoon World" was in the remastered "Boy".

Then there is the Hilversum show which is a delight : raw energy all around. I'd love to have this one on a vinyl : You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

From the announcement on U2.com we know it's a show from 1980, in the UK or Ireland, in a small club and with a few hundred passionate fans. That discards the Hilversum show and the National Stadium show, since it was on a boxing venue with 1,500-2,000 attendance.

U2.com lists it as "Double vinyl, download." I wonder when we'll get the download. With U22 we got teaser tracks before it was shipped.

The best show and bootleg I own. Absolutely breathtaking. Electric Co. and An Cat Dubh are the best versions I have ever heard of those two songs. Brilliant stuff. So much energy.

My guess is that it will be the show at the Marquee Club in London on 22nd September 1980.
"Boy-Girl" from that gig has already appeared on the B-Side of "I Will Follow" so the show must have been recorded professionally

Unfortunately, the setlist for that show does not appear on "U2 Gigs" but the show a few days previously to this does (Plymouth) and is:
1.The Ocean, 2.11 O'Clock Tick Tock, 3.I Will Follow, 4.Touch, 5.An Cat Dubh, 6.Into The Heart, 7.A Day Without Me, 8.Twilight, 9.The Electric Co.
10.Things To Make And Do, 11.Stories For Boys, 12.Boy-Girl, 13.Out Of Control

U2's setlists from this period hardly ever changed so it will something like this.
From all the information provided so far this gig fits the bill.

I will put money down that those of us who have been here awhile have heard the show, I don't have my U2 collection by me right now, but I'm guessing the Boston show from 82? I remembered they played 11 o clock tick tock twice on it. They didn't do this again till HTDAAB tour, awesome memories of Vertigo twice resurging!

You mean Boston, March 6, 1981? Again, not going to happen, I'm afraid: it's a 1980 show either in the UK or Ireland. That is, if we believe u2.com.

By the way, they never played 11 O'Clock in Vertigo. Last time was 2001-08-21, London.

This. Since then, they added "11 O'Clock" from the same show in the remastered edition of Boy. It makes absolute sense. I'd love this.
