Look, U2 could play this set:

Zooropa
This is Where You Can Reach Me Now
Do You Feel Loved
The Crystal Ballroom
Electrical Storm
Fire
Dirty Day
So Cruel
A Man and a Woman
Babyface
Your Blue Room
Window in the Skies
Sleep Like a Baby Tonight
Boy Falls From the Sky
Please
Last Night On Earth
Acrobat
Daddy's Gonna Pay for Your Crashed Car
Lucifer's Hands
Volcano
One Step Closer
No Line On the Horizon
Magnificent

And the 17 or so super fans like us in the arena would go nuts. But the other 15000-20000 would be bored, confused and very disappointed.
That's one hell of a setlist right there.. They should advertise that setlist and do a theater tour.  I bet all the casuals would b**** cause they couldn't get in.

AND tickets would be going for $2,500 a pop with scalpers. And idiots would pay. And THEN complain about the lack of hits. :)

AND 8 of the super fans (these are super super fans) would complain that they didn't play Bass Trap.

The only glaring problem with the setlists so far are the MoFo snippets during Iris.  Otherwise, U2 are doing fine.  You can't please everyone.

Cheers,

J

Actually have to applaud that; top level stuff even for you, jick!

But surely you want a bit more ATYCLB in there? Just one song is pretty poor, no?

It's been a bummer watching my favorite band of all time essentially become integrity-less jukebox

How does a static setlist that does it's best to please the majority of the audience in any way ELIMINATE the band's INTEGRITY? Call the hyperbole police. The only way their integrity would be diminished  by this is if they weren't playing the songs that THEY want to play. I think they like the security blanket of the old war-horses - especially with not knowing how Bono would hold up after the accident and having to deal with first night jitters. Once they establish the working framework of the show - tempo, story, stylings - then they will loosen up and mix up the setlist more. They are already slowly doing that.

Whether die-hards like it or not, we aren't the majority. I would LOVE something like fardreamer's setlist above (minus the Spidey tune and Man & a Woman), and would even open up my wallet big time to see it. As long as they are of the mindset to continue trying and bring in new and younger fans, we aren't going to get it. They are in no hurry, apparently, to ramp things down and just play to the supper club circuit of die-hards.

Might have been site admin who said 'just gonna enjoy it as it might be the last time around and not gonna get hung up on setlists' or words to that effect.

I make that pretty much right personally although I think there is room to and it isn't unreasonable to say move 3 hits out and move 3 lesser spotted tracks in....

That for me would be a pretty dead on situation that gives enough to every kind of fan.

Maybe jib elevation, still haven't found and COBL for example and replace with 3 rarities...

I think as the tour progreases something like this may happen, it's early yet and u2 take time to get going, would be great if they were loose enough to be more spontaneous, but they never have been and never will be.

What would be cool is if ib the future they actually did a short little tour playing small venues playing just deep cuts....something specially for their very loyal hardcore fan base.

Instead of a 4 or 5 year gap until the next mega tour just come out for a couples months or so when nobody expects it.

U2 has never been able to change up their set list night to night like Pearl Jam Phish or other bands. One reason is u2 creates a concept for the stage show and makes limitations based on theme etc. Also graphics and other components of sound light etc make it difficult for spontaneity. that is why Bono's snippets have been raved about as he can change those easily night to night.

I didn't believe when u2 stated they would have major song changes in the 2 night format. If you could attend every show of the tour you would hear lots of different songs as they will make changes like during 360 and were only playing 2-3 songs off No Horizon by the end.

When Pink Floyd did their concept tours like THE WALL or Dark Side of the Moon they rarely made changes in set list night to night. You the fan were not entitled or special enough to dictate what you heard. But you were always amazed at concert. So I guess that is what U2 should be held up to. Were you amazed by the show?

Internet has made this so much harder as you know everything vs hearing rumors or seeing a TV spot on band etc.
I wouldn't mind going back to the old way and I was glad the band kept it tight lipped until a week before tour.

The only bummer on this tour is having so many people travel to residency. Hell I got a GA ticket but will cost me close to $1000 after Hotel and Airline. Couldn't get seats for more then one show due to price of tickets. I wonder if U2 made some agreements with Local Hotel and Airlines to get a piece of the travel stay pie!!!!

I hope every one can enjoy their shows with or without the songs you wish you heard!!!!! or if you like Sticky Fingers check out Rolling Stones as they might play the entire album start to finish on their tour. Did that last night at the club warm up show....

It might also be worth noting that given the distance between these shows, the limited number of shows and markets visited and the prices, how many people -- outside of us -- are really seeing more than one show? I know, I know, there are exceptions, but this isn't really a follow them around like PJ or DMB type deal.

This is a SHOW. Themes, visuals and songs. I agree, I would also like to see more rarities, but as far as changing from night to night, look at ZooTV. It was pretty stagnant too, and most of us hold it up as the be all and end all. And for the PopMart lovers, those sets didn't change much after some new songs that weren't working were dropped early. And that also would draw complaints, wouldn't it?
