U2's "Bad" - "Find a way" or "Fade away"
« on: October 23, 2015, 02:37:48 PM »
This might seem obvious at first ("Fade away", right?), but according to both U2's official site and this site, the lyrics are "and so to find a way". I'm listening right now to both the WAIA version and the studio version and I hear "and so fade away!"

Bono has been known to change lyrics depending on what he remembers, what he feels like, and if he thinks the original lyrics can be improved on. He probably sings both versions of the lyrics and means both of them, if for slightly different reasons. The songs aren't static; they can grow and have lives of their own.

Yeah, Bono always changes the lyrics to Bad. Especially during the "desolation/Isolation/in temptation" bit.

Not sure that is always planned.

I know the official lyrics say "find away" but he always says "fade away". It is so clear. I have yet to find a performance where he says find away.

The first time I heard this song, I thought he was saying "I'm not sleeping, alone" where he says "I'm not sleeping, oh no"!
But, no, I've never heard him sing "find away". "Fade away" seems to fit the song meaning better.

he very clearly sings "fade away...not fade away" in many versions, which is of course a reference/homage to the Rolling Stones.

Not sure I would use the word change...it's more like he forgets the order, and just kinda wings it.

Nothing artistic about the way he flubs lyrics sometimes, particularly Bad's.

To be fair though, it seemed that two nights ago in Houston he nailed that song.

"Not Fade Away"---a Buddy Holly reference.

I've resigned myself to the fact that there really are no "official lyrics" at this point!😊

Exactly. There are just the most commonly performed lyrics and then other, more rarely performed lyrics.
