Any other thoughts on the new album?

For me, the most damning thing of all: after two listens, I pretty much have no interest in listening to it again.

Yeh, I haven't been too enthused to listen to it.. again and again... but that just may be my overall mood/feeling for that kind of music at the moment. However I am thinking it is all quite consistently mid/same-tempo. Each song seems to blend into the next. There is nothing rocking.. ..

Listening to it now.. It is enjoyable. It's fine.
It suffers from the same thing as 'almost' everything DM post Wilder..

Alan's description here sums it up.. (24min in..)

Too clean sounding. Too rigid. Too much drum machine. No human groove in the rhythm which (would) gives it warmth.

Yeah, the bright side is they made the Delta Machine work pretty well live on the last tour, and I'm still not a fan of the album.  So hopefully the new songs will improve at the show.

The new album has begun to grow on me around the 4th listen.  Still prefer a lot of the older material, but there are some classic sounding elements here.  Just give it a bit of time.

Ugh.  Do I have to?  I'm not sure I've ever felt so uninspired by an album of theirs.  I think Delta Machine really dealt a blow to my expectations, and this didn't convince me otherwise.  There ARE a few moments I like, but I just find the songs themselves lacking.

I've been a big fan of Depeche Mode since Violator, but have to say I wasn't impressed by the last album, it just has the air of a big band stuck in the cycle of bringing out a new album every four years, followed by a world tour, regardless of the quality of the material. I think I've only listened to it all the way through a few times since it was released, and I'm in no hurry to listen to it again, to be honest.

Anyone else check out the current tour?  I saw the previous US leg, and then caught this one.  I don't suppose it's terribly surprising, but the new album was reduced to just three songs live.  I wasn't torn up about that, but I might finally be tiring of some of their own warhorses that they seem to rely on every tour.  I know Personal Jesus and Enjoy the Silence will be played every tour, but I've never been terribly interested in A Question of Time or Stripped.  Still, they keep getting trotted out.

Interestingly, though, I'm pretty sure this is the first tour since I first saw them in 1993 where I Feel You WASN'T played.  And Ultra was well-represented with all four singles in the setlist.

I missed them when they were in Nashville.  I really wish I hadn’t.  My favorites are Behind the Wheel Strange Love and Just Can’t Get Enough. I love Where’s The Revolution too.  And Id love to Hear Halo one day

They put on a good show, no question--they're kind of the other band I catch every tour, like U2.  Though on this tour, I don't think they're doing BTW, JCGE, or Halo.  The last time they did Halo was a remix version of it, too.

The new version of Ocean by Goldfrapp, featuring Dave Gahan is excellent - far better than anything on the last DM album.
