And I'm not super familiar with them but aren't stone roses the kings of Brit pop?

So much of it crosses and is intertwined....even some of the bands people may associate with madchester often crossed other genres/scenes

The fact the only 2 female-led bands you mention are at the bottom of your list shows how conservative and reactionary Britpop actually was.

That's a strange conclusion to draw

Blur is my favorite (and one of my all-time favorite bands).

I really like the Stone Roses.  Suede and Pulp are good.  The rest is kinda whatever to me.
Oasis, those first 2 albums pretty damn great, the rest bores me, plus while it may excite some or be considered "real rock n' roll", I could never really care for the Gallagher's endless antics.

Echobelly and Elastica were the highlights for me. Pulp were great fun live, Gene were OK but the rest left me cold. Couldn't see what all the fuss was about Oasis and Blur were nowt special either. Elastica though ... I loved them. I wouldn't lump the Stone Roses, Charlatans, Happy Mondays et al in with Britpop though. They were a good few years earlier as part of the "Madchester" scene or "Baggy" or whatever the NME made up to call it all.

It used to be asked here in the UK in the 90's ...
Oasis or Blur?....

The correct answer was Pulp!

Does New Order count as Brit-Pop?  New Order, Joy Division, Depeche Mode, all great.
