... but I think the video for Discotheque is a work of pure genius!!! It's just such a funny video and I love that fun side of the band. Their Village People get up at the end was inspired.

Who else loves this great video and song? :)

I enjoy the video and especially the song!  I think Larry looked a little pi**ed in the video, though.  His face registered a look of "what in the bloody hell".  But it was funny all the same!

I love the video! I get why some people might not like it, though. In my opinion, it fits the song perfectly. Maybe they should've picked another track for the lead single, though... Then maybe Pop would have been better received and U2 would still have continued their experimentation with another few albums.

I think it's a great vid. I read somewhere that Larry really didn't want to do the whole disco thing (can't blame him!). Bono and Edge, as always, enjoyed doing something different. And Adam just went along...
I thought the vid was a real hoot! And, love the song.

From an interview awhile back with Bono's daughter Eve on thedailybeast.com:

Interviewer: So I would be remiss if I didn’t ask you before you go what your favorite U2 song is.

Eve: Oh, God. Favorite song… “Discotheque.”

Interviewer: Interesting. Why?

Eve: Because have you seen that music video? It is the most ridiculous one that I’d ever seen. They’re singing in a disco ball and have a routine like they’re in a boyband. It’s amazing.

I mean, it's Memphis Eve Sunny Day, you really can't argue with her.

A bit off topic, but has anyone else noticed that the guys in the band are very good with offspring names:  Memphis, Elijah, Jordan, (not sure about John, okay but kind of common), Sian, Blue Angel, Levi, Aaron Elvis; all make a statement and are quite unique.

I agree. Great song with a very good music video. The video further proved they did not take themselves too seriously, and shows just how far off the beaten path they would go to make fun of themselves. They were obviously having fun with that video. The shot of one of them, forget who, laying flat and emotionless on floor as one the dancers gyrates only inches above him always cracks me up.

Also, special mention to the moments where Bono and Edge appear to be checking out/fixing their hair and sharing binaca. I also don't think Larry looks upset. I think he's intentionally using the "trying too hard to look cool" face to great effect.

I know a lot of people say Discotheque should have never been the lead single, and that it stunted the album's potential growth - at least in America. However I disagree. I'm not sure another song off the album would have shifted more overall units as the first single. Just my take.

Yay! I'm glad there's so much love for Discotheque, the song and the video. It really is one of my faves from them and I just love how much fun they had with the video, I always love seeing the fun side of the band. The song itself is so damn catchy and Edge's guitar is just brilliant on it.

How I wish they'd make another video as crazy and funny at this!
