Joshua Tree Tour 2017 setlist prediction/wishlist
« on: January 17, 2017, 07:18:01 PM »
What part of the show do you think TJT will be played in full?

- I think it'll be the 2nd set, book ended by a 1st set of greatest hits pre TJT.
-TJT in running order, with El Pueblo Vencera coda to MOTD.

That 1st set

-Old stuff pre TJT, based on band's comments, but subject to change naturally.
-I see the band playing it fairly safe and I don't expect deep cuts off October, War, TUF, etc.
-Opening song: Out of Control with a long drum intro. It's a safe crowd pleaser, casuals/die hards love it.
-Usual suspects: IWF, NYD, Pride, SBS, etc.
-Would like them to finally dust off ASOH. It's been a while.
-Bad/40/MLK close 1st set and band take brief pause as TJT portion starts bubbling up.
-Remember how MLK ending blends nicely into WTHSHNN intro. Something to watch for.

Re TJT

-Longer majestic organ intro a la R&H, longer than usual Edge intro.
-WOWY will have Shine Like Stars.
-Expect an incendiary BTBS. I guarantee Trump will be tweeting, 3 am-ish.
-I'd like to see a Zoo TV style RTSS but expect it to be close to the album version.
-Very, very excited to hear RHMT, IGC, TTYW, Exit and especially...OTH and the closing MOTD and likely El Pueblo Vencera (would be so relevant).

24-25 songs, 2 sets, I do not expect a 3rd set. If they were to do a 3rd set, I would like it to be SOE, to give a taste of the future.

p.s., I will be at both Rose Bowl shows, GA secured for Rose Bowl 1.

I think you hit it right on, but I doubt that we'll hear ASOH. Bono's voice could not handle that.

he can't really do WOWY justice and that sure as hell ain't stopping him.

i think itll be SOI songs, hits for the first set. then an "intermission" so to speak so that they can "open" with Streets. if that makes sense. then a normal encore of Walk On/One etc

I think Bono could handle ASOH, depending on the arrangement. RHMT will be interesting to watch, for that "I'm hanging on" part.

He got through Unforgettable Fire on 360 just fine. He'd just have to dial it back in a few spots. Change the key. There's no shame in that.

I'd personally dig seeing Sweetest Thing come back this time around. Here's to hoping!

It would be nice to get a couple of tracks from SOE. However, I'm not sure they'll do that given the nature of the tour (only 31 shows) and the reality that they'll probably do another arena tour after the release of SOE. I'm actually expecting this tour not to contain any rarities (outside of the rarely played JT songs) and focus more on hits from the 80's, 90's, and early-mid 2000's that will be appreciated by more casual fans. I hope I'm wrong, but that's my best guess.

A bunch of Pop album songs to celebrate the 20th anniversary.  It'd be great to hear Mofo, Gone, Last Night on Earth, Do You Fee Loved?

I posted this just a few minutes ago on a similar thread:

My dream setlist would be for them to open with one song per album, sans Joshua Tree, followed by using MLK to segue into Streets.

Something like:
Out Of Control
Gloria
New Year's Day
A Sort Of Homecoming
Desire
Mysterious Ways
Numb
Mofo
Elevation
Vertigo
Cedars of Lebanon
Raised by Wolves
MLK

And, then the Joshua Tree album in full, sequential order, then followed by an encore.

Or they could substitute 11 O'Clock Tick Tock instead of Out Of Control, as they'd likely then play I Will Follow in the encore.

Anything close to this would be musically orgasmic for me.

What would the likely hood of the hands that built America being included? It would fit in nicely with the theme of the shows

I say 1 in an 1000.

I predict that Edge will play RTSS like he did on that video released last year with that looper arrangement.

I think that would be quite nice...and maybe he'll remember the words this time!
