Your Heart is on my Sleeve...
« on: January 18, 2017, 05:51:29 AM »
I was listening to "I fall down" recorded live the 6th december 1982 for BBC radio 1 the other day.

And I noticed Bono was saying "your heart is on my sleeve"...
That line is also on "Ordinary Love".

To me, the 2 songs are clearly connected now,
they share the same thematic of falling down.

But most of all, I was wondering who is Julie Bono is talking about in "I fall down" lyrics.
Maybe "Ordinary Love" is more about Julie that Nelson Mandela, after all.
And maybe, she's the key to understand "Ordinary Love" lyrics.

Did someone has a clue about the identity of Julie, please?

It might be a subconscious event by Bono.

I've read various accounts over the years, ranging from it being just a flurry of random ideas to a story about two people that Bono actually knew. I don't think an official explanation has ever been given. Definitely a great song.

U2 in the early days had several songs that mentioned random names, some of which are real people and some not. Mrs Brown, Sadie, Julie, John, Pete the Chop,

Yeah, Mrs Brown, Sadie, Pete the Chop all exist.
But I didn't find anything about Julie, except JTNash;-)

It sounds to me like Julie was a drug addict or sick so I'd not  be opposed to Bono writing a part two where I am doing much better lol

I feel much better lol we need a part two! I just got that impression myself that it was about an addict or depressed or sick person.

Can't remember where as it was a long time ago, but remember reading that Julie was part of the Shalom religious group Bono, Edge and Larry were involved in.  Apparently she gave Bono a lot of attention.

You know I was in a youth group as a teen, we wrote letters as part of our retreats.  Wonder if his youth group did the same?
