What infrequently-performed songs have you seen U2 play?
« on: February 23, 2017, 05:42:27 PM »
I don't have a good definition of "infrequently-performed", it's in the eye of the beholder I guess.  I've seen a few minor oddities, but nothing truly earth-shattering.  The closest I've come to *really rare* was at my first U2 show in 1987, when Bono sang a few lines of "Walk to the Water" during "40".  I've also seen, in no particular order:
- Do You Feel Loved?
- Crumbs From Your Table
- Your Blue Room
- Fast Cars
- Eddie Vedder & Daniel Lanois guesting on One / Old Man River
- One of only two 2005 performances of Discotheque, complete with Popmart intro

I'd be curious to know what the rest of you have been lucky enough to witness!

I don't know how rare these are but out of the six shows I've been to:

Gloria
One Tree Hill
Zooropa
The Unforgettable Fire
The Wanderer (snippet of the first two verses)
Ordinary Love
Scarlet

I saw "The First Time".  That couldn't have been played very often since '93.

Great thread idea!

"Gloria" and "the Ocean" - My first U2 show, Vertigo 2005.  I think I was too young and dumb to appreciate the epic-ness of the moment
"Stay" (acoustic) - I lost my s**t when they played this at my second 360 show...we got an extended "oh oh ohhhhh oh oh oh" refrain and nearly died  :P
"Breathe" - Does this count as a rarity now, especially when it opens the show?  Or any songs off No Line? Because I doubt we'll ever head "Breathe" again :o
"When Loves Come to Town" - on the "e" stage...man did it rock
"The Troubles" - at Vancouver 2...it didn't seem to work that well live in the moment, but now I miss it

That's right, I saw "The Ocean" as well.  I felt like I was the only person in the arena who knew it!  It's such a short song that it seemed like it was over in heartbeat.  Edge played his Les Paul (the same guitar he had just used for the prior song, "Electric Co.").  Not sure why, but I remember that!

They played Miracle Drug for the 2nd SOI show in Phoenix...I know it's not a rarity overall, but I don't think it was played a lot on that tour...

The First Time was played 28 times (full versions) on the Vertigo Tour!

Only twice in 2015. (I saw it in Vancouver)

It depends on definition.

e.g. I was lucky to enjoy When Love Comes To Town in 2015. Extremely rare thing. But in 1989 it was just a regular song.

e.g. I was lucky to be present for the first time ever full-band performance of Miss Sarajevo. Later in 2005 and 2010 it was a regular as well.

Besides that I enjoyed Two Hearts Beat As One, some 10 times of Party Girl, Glastonbury, Mercy, The Troubles
