The only thing that is remotely similar is the riff that goes from 0:08 to 0:14, which sounds a bit like the solo from The Fly.

BUT!  I always thought the solo from The Fly sounded a lot like a more developed version of the guitar solo at the end of the Rattle and Hum version of Silver And Gold (Edge "playing the blues" from 5:42 here: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login).  It's pretty much exactly the same notes as The Fly.  And U2 did this is 1987.  So they could counter-sue to say that Paul Rose stole from them...

But it's all bo****ks anyway.

I highly doubt U2 has ever heard any of this guy's songs...
So he's basically claiming they tampered with demo tapes Island used to receive in order to steal ideas? LMAO

There's some kind of similarity in the drums and some notes, but going as far as saying U2 stole his song is pure madness

It sounds nothing like "The Fly."  The guy just posted the song last Wednesday, and like someone said, the counter is way up.  He's probably just broke and hoping U2 gives him a modest settlement so he can have his bread and butter this year.  I don't think any court will legitimately give him anything after waiting 25 years to bring this up, but U2 might throw him some bones just to move on.

Whatever happened to the band who sued U2 for using Hiroshi Sugimoto's photo as album cover art, because they used it too? No one remembers. They got their 15 seconds of publicity.
I'm pretty sure that U2 had used the same photographer as the other band... but that's probably not true.

I heard somewhere that every artist is a thief.

The poet's the thief. The artist is a cannibal.

Yikes.

So why did he wait 25 years?

a. I read that he thought a lawsuit at the time would be the end of his career.
b. Only found someone recently at Island Records that would go on record to say his song was played all the time at Island Records around the time Achtung Baby was recorded.

These are difficult cases.  I think the riff is similar but as many mentioned....not enough to win a lawsuit.  Artists lift riffs, progressions, etc. all the time....to create something new....which The Fly is surely not Rose's song.

There are also notes reminiscent of the  Bullet the Blue Sky solo from ZooTV.  But I doubt there was ever any intentional theft.

Man, this is a STRETCH.  Yeah, the guitar solo to the Fly sounds a bit like the first few seconds of this song.  And then that's it.

As mentioned upthread, U2 have ripped off other songs way worse than this.  Vertigo and You Keep Me Hanging On, in particular.

What a load of tripe. Desperate ploy for money - who's behind this get quick rich scheme, Del Boy and Rodney Trotter?

Paul Rose is obviously running out of change and wishes there were a few things he could rearrange.

You don't really have legal grounds for" it sort of sounds the same" and they "could have" heard it at the record label.  But I'm sure he will find this out.

I think the start of City of Blinding Lights has some similarities with "Streets".

U2 should sue themselves. 80's U2 would make s**tloads of money.

(Not to mention other bands.)
