Was funny. All Bono did was snippet Walking Away a couple of times. More similar than this. Much more.

I think the start of City of Blinding Lights has some similarities with "Streets".

U2 should sue themselves. 80's U2 would make s**tloads of money.

(Not to mention other bands.)

John Forgerty didn't own his publishing for many years.  When he made his comeback in the 80's the owner of his CCR publishing tried to sue him for sounding like his old songs.

Interesting. And absurd. But U2 does.

A lot of songs have parts that sound like other songs. It happens.

Apart from a slight similarity with 4 or 5 notes of The Fly's guitar solo with the beginning of this track they are nothing alike!

Seems like an awfully long time to wait?

first thing i thought. but then the Stairway to Heaven lawsuit took from 71 to, what, 2014?

i can hear a similarity to the Fly but i hear more of a desperation for money from a clueless jabroni who just now heard this song.

I actually feel bad for the guy. As a musician, I'm well aware that you have to look after your business and legal affairs. You also have to know when to "hold your fire". There have been dozens of suits like this, some warranted (Hammond vs. Radiohead's "Creep"-major lifts) and several stretches like this one...3 notes won't end up winning the day for him, and will break him financially.

Other way around, Radiohead "ripped off" another artist for Creep: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

From the article:

Arguably this is what Radiohead suffered from when they wrote Creep. I was working for a record company at the time and was in a meeting with the band's management when I innocently commented on the lovely melodic reference to the Hollies' Air That I Breathe. They claimed not to have noticed, but eventually writers Albert Hammond and Mike Hazelwood did and were given songwriting credits in the liner notes to the Pablo Honey album.

Interestingly, also from the article:

Quote
There are many more examples of songs happily co-existing without writers resorting to litigation. Most people have noticed that the best bit of U2's Beautiful Day ("Touch me!") is both lyrically and musically identical to A-Ha's The Sun Always Shines On TV but Morten Harket and co have graciously allowed U2 to carry on making money out of it.

I hadn't heard this A-Ha song prior to tonight so I queued it up. At first I was like "this sounds nothing like Beautiful Day," then it got to the "Touch Me!" part and I was like, whoa, that is very similar. I don't think it was intentional plagiarism so much as more of a subconscious thing.

Yeah maybe the 10-15 second intro kind of sounds similar, but you can probably find that in many other songs as well. The rest of it I just don't hear it.

As a small, small-time musician, this bears so little resemblance.  The only notable similarity is the key of the song (E).  The bass line and rhythmic articulation is somewhat similar, but so as it is with Bo Diddley's "Who Do You Love?" - also sometimes found in some of Edge's playing.  Other than that, I can't hear anything else.  The argument pertaining to the use of a distortion pedal and industrial beats is downright laughable.  If that's his case, then everyone from NIN down to Smashing Pumpkins should be held to the same measure.  This man is overreaching, his case lacks any merit whatsoever.

U2 should give him a back-stage invite to one of their upcoming shows and be done with it.  8)
