I honestly do not know enough about the precedent that have been set to know if this guy has a case or not. There isn't as much similarity between the whole of this guy's song and The Fly as say, Huey Lewis' I Want A New Drug and Ray Parker Jr.'s Ghostbusters theme, but does there have to be? In that case, it was like 80 percent of the song. In this case, it is a general vibe and a 5 second guitar riff. I honestly don't know if it is enough. I hear the similarity.

I also hear a lot of similarities between every other Oasis song and some other British band from the 60s/70s. Noel has been called out on it many times, but the only time I know that he had to pay up was Shakermaker/I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing. And then there's the Green Day song that sounds exactly like Wonderwall. Smells Like Teen Spirit is very similar to Boston's More Than A Feeling.

I honestly don't know.

The oasis example is good. The hair cuts, reference points they gave in interviews.. the open love of John Lennon.. The piano intro to don't look back in anger?
It is amazing nobody had them over a barrel.

I think he's referring to Boulevard Of Broken Dreams, but to be fair the only thing that's similar it's the chord progression.
Even Electrical Storm has the same progression (Edge has even admitted nicking that from Wonderwall), but the rhythm it's totally different.

I was just going to say, "Don't Look Back In Anger" is an obvious Beatles/Lennon rip-off. If those guys didn't get sued...again, can't see this case against U2 going further.

I think GD had some other songs that were claimed to have been "plagiarized." Can't recall which ones, but I remember watching a YouTube video a few months back where they talked about plagiarized songs and they mentioned GD at least once or twice and not for Boulevard.

This sort of thing seems to be pretty common, and in many cases it's not that the artist is intentionally plagiarizing, but rather it's a subconscious thing.

The most blatent "influenced by" song had got to be the excellent Let Forever Be by the Chemical Brothers...

It's like saying the guitar line from Ed Sheeran's 'Castle on the Hill' sounds ever so much like the intro to 'Where the Streets Have No Name.'

What's worrying about 'liberating' other peoples songs is that Oasis used portions of Gary Glitter's music, he took them to Court and won, and probably used it to fund his move to Cambodia.

Ed is definitely borrowing a u2 sound for that song. Even the vocal style seems a little u2.

Oasis had too many to mention, but the most obvious are:
Cigarettes And Alcohol (Bang A Gong)
Up In The Sky (Ticket To Ride)
Shakermaker (I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing)

I'm pretty he ripped the introduction to Johnny B. Goode from someone else, as well.

you misunderstood. BB ripped him off, not the other way around.

but yes he riped JBG off from Louis Jordan and His Tympany Five and their song Ain't That Just Like a Woman
