Joshua Tree is my favorite record from any artist, so... of course I'm interested.

At this point I am hesitating between the CD and LP deluxe sets. If the LP set comes with digital download, I'm all for it. If not... I'm afraid I need the CDs.

In terms of content...

Visuals : I'm a big fan of Corbijn's work during that period so, anything that we don't already have is welcome. By the way, I think the white sleeve with color pic is brilliant. To me it's the main selling point of this thing. I can see myself framing a few pictures or try to have the band members sign them (one can dream). The visuals for the MSG show LP look very good too.

Music : We have 8 new mixes, which should be interesting. I can't wait to hear the Eno and Lanois mixes since I was a big fan of Lanois's mix of "A sort of homecoming" with Peter Gabriel (on the TUF reissue).
The MSG show : I'm not too much of a fan of the last leg of the JT Tour. I think Bono sounds exhausted. I have an incomplete bootleg of this show. It's nice but not unforgettable, although Party Girl is Ok.

Of course I would have loved to get more. Of course I would appreciate U2 to celebrate POP as well, but hey... Things are what they are.

Just so I don't purchase the wrong thing and can't use it, is a LP, vinyl?

I'd love to have a flashy box set for POP. POP music talk about, it's all about POP music. Oh the good days.

What this all comes down to is the band not making good decisions lately in consideration of many of the fans.
Lately? :-) More like since they got fully into bed with LiveNation around 2008.

TBH, I'm a little scared about what remixes of Streets and One Tree Hill will sound like. Not sure my ears need to hear new versions of those two songs, but I'll keep an open mind/ear and give 'em a shot.

its cool to have them regardless.

This really turns me off.  We already had a JT box set.  If this was about anything other than making (even more) money, they could easily just release the new remixes individually or as a single disc.  Or, God forbid, send it out to members of their overpriced fan club.

I'm sure there'll be complaints in this thread soon enough about money-grabs and stuff like that. Whatevs.

And that kind of attitude helps conversation how exactly?

Maybe it helps by attenuating the "cash-grabbing" only comments  which... do not help the conversation, let's face it.

it does not help - it is exactly the kind of stuff the site admin himself has said he wants to stop, yet here he is doing it himself.

People are entitled to voice their views on this release - to praise it and state how excited they are or to voice different views....to pre-empt peoples potential comments with 'whatevs' is rude and very much against the very ethos the man making the 'whatevs' comment says he is trying to create here.

Google play has the digital edition for a reasonable $22.99. It is a bulk purchase and says the remastering happened in 2007.

if you have the 9.99 a month unlimited subscription you can then download it effectively for free...or even cherry pick songs from it.

i have respect for his dedication to here....i know little to nothing about his dedication to u2 so won't comment on that (apart from he clearly has some to set up fan sites and forums) - i have less respect for his double standards on this issue and if you had read his comments about engaging with respect, how what you say is perceived by others and how it affects others to even use of humour etc... you would see exactly what i am saying...

Being site admin does not excuse you from the rules you want everyone else to play by - I would argue that it actually places an onus on you to 'lead' by example...
