Miami - "Unfortunately, the main thing they got from the vacation was this crappy song about the city. Why they felt it deserved 62 live performances on PopMart is beyond us, but they finally put it out of its misery after a show in Miami. Here's a live take, but it's just about as lousy as the album version."

F Off Rolling Stone your worthless rag of a publication.

Let's be honest, anything beyond three chord guitar pubrock is beyond comprehension for Rolling Stone. No wonder they don't get Pop.

Also, I don't get the hate for Playboy Mansion. It's no classic but I like its weary lyrics towards pop culture. It's a great juxtaposition with the spiritual ethos of U2 songs.

I concur. This fan is attracted to U2 because of their experimentation but decries them because of their experimentation.

I agree with this.  It is certainly not a five star U2 song, but I think it may be a bit undervalued.  I have to agree with their commentary on "Miami" though.

Discotheque from the Best Of isn't radically different? Are you freaking kidding me right now? I love both, but one is a hyper-produced club track, and the 'new' version is a dirty, Stones-esque R&B groove-based song. I couldn't disagree more with that assessment.

As for Playboy Mansion, there's a fine line between clever and stupid. Miami is clever. Playboy Mansion was a good idea -- the hymn to trash, as Bono called it, but they lost their way, IMO.

The Pop version of Discotheque is far better than the rather stripped back and uninteresting Best Of remix.

Actually, this writer has talked before in the Rolling Stone Now podcast about how he considers Pop one of U2's unappreciated albums. But that doesn't mean he has to be blind to some of its lesser songs. I thought it was a fair write-up that provided links to some cool alternative versions to listen to.

Yep. The Best Of mixes indicate what Pop would have sounded like had the band "finished" it (hint: it would have sounded like Atomic Bomb -- Bono screeching way too loud while all the interesting musical bits are removed in favor of rawk).
