No Love for Miami?
« on: March 20, 2017, 05:54:58 PM »
Miami is without a doubt one of my favorite U2 songs. I read it as a man in their early twenties exploring the urban nightlife and sheer thrilling and wild freedom of the city of Miami. Does anyone else here have an opinion on the song? I know it's not a particularly well-appreciated song.

One of the best songs on Pop... I have no idea as to why people hate it. The lazy and laid back delivery perfectly captures what this album is supposed to be. As much as I hate using the word, "swagger" best describes it.

Love the lyrics, except the 'miami'-parts. The music could have been reviewed. It's not one of my favorites - Pop has a lot more brilliant songs - but not a bad song at all

It's everything is meant to be. The secret is to get into that groove loop that dominates the first 50 servings or so of the song. The rest just flows.

I think one of the reasons I love it so much is because it is the exact opposite of everything U2 has ever done.

I'm a fan too.  It's one of the highlights for me on Pop.  Was mega live on the Popmart tour.

I love it- especially when it shifts up several gears with Bono announcing "But there's no place like...MIAMI!" and Edge's mangled distorted guitar riff comes in on top of Larry's killer groove. An underrated beast of a track!

Im a fan of the song and i happen to think it was a monster song live, (edges simple riff was killer!). So much so, i rated it joint highlight of the Popmart tour (along with Please)

I'll admit I wasn't crazy about it when it first came out, but after 20 years it has grown (slightly) on me. Many times I don't know what to make of some of their songs and it takes a while for me to get it. I guess I'm not a very sophisticated listener and I sometimes struggle to figure out what they are doing with a particular song.
