The chorus has been left untouched. Bono only re-recorded the verses.

A bit late to the conversation, but I cannot un-hear this.  Every time I listen to JT I am going to hear these new vocals and mix.

There is a certain rawness to JT.  This is what makes this album a great work of art.  Not sure why they felt they needed to rework this song.

I read that the original mix of this song had some vocal reverb that Bono said made him 'sound like a rich man singing about unemployment'.  For this reason the original reverb was removed.  The remix of the song now sounds like a happy rich man singing about unemployment.

The song lost its soul.

I'm sorry, but this is STUPID. If you're going to take the time to re-record the verses, do the whole thing. Mixing new verses with the original chorus is ridiculous. Especially THIS original chorus. They may as well have not done a remix.

There's some denial going on around here. Guys- it's no offense to Bono. It's just reality. You wouldn't expect Carl Lewis to come out and make the long jumps he could just barely reach in 1987, right?

Dunno, if Carl got back on the same gear he was on back then, he'd be a chance. PEDs have come a long way though, he could probably smash out a PB...

On topic though it reminds me a bit of sweetest thing. They took a raw, gutsy b side and turned it into polished MOR radio fodder.

We'll see. I hope it stacks up.

Just heard this today....am i alone in thinking Bono's vocal in the verses sounds very thin, strained and weak as well as a little rushed?

maybe they are going for a "reach back in time" kind-of-effect where Bono 2017 is singing with Bono 1986/1987.  It kind of plays with the same themes as the Innocence + Experience tour...a then/now thing.  I am going to wait until it's released before I criticize because I have a feeling I will be happy with it.  See, I promised my wife I was going to be a more upbeat and positive person in 2017...so I am going to try and put cynicism aside for the time being.

Hate it. It's right up there (for me) with the "One" remix with Mary J. Blige and the remake of "Do They Know It's Christmas" (Why...just why?).

I'm usually the voice of optimism and positiveness around here, but...

The next big question is: "will it get radio play?" Right now, it's just looking like a bonus track and not really a "rereleased single"

Not to be argumentative, but is that really a big question? It will get a few spins on classic rock radio. It will not get played on the rest of the stations that are geared to kids. Just isn't going to happen.

On the other hand, I don't think it matters. There's no way U2 is building into their future releases the idea that they're going to get tons of radio play. They can't be that delusional. But there are thankfully other outlets these days .

If it gets radio play I'm totally gonna hop in my time machine and go back to a period when radio play was relevant and really enjoy it!
