It's a bizarre collaboration, but I like it quite a bit. Kind of surprised, to be honest, even though Kendrick is amazing.

Looking forward to listening to the rest of the album.

I have listening to XXX on repeat and it sounds pretty dope. U2 has once again has proven that they are still cool.

well i dont have a strong opinion one way or the other. i mean obviously it won't be a sample but something new. i guess i'm intrigued.

This.
Anything that places the band outside of their usual surroundings can only be a good thing.

I'm not getting the negativity on here towards a song that no one has heard yet, as if there is a will for U2 to fail.

There really hasn't been much negativity at all really...there has been the usual mix of the odd knee jerk reaction at both ends of the spectrum, cautious opinion and people not really being sure what to think.

The whole conversation has been pretty balanced....I honestly don't see the need for the over played 'negativity' card you have played here.

Negativity card? WTF, is this even a thing?

My post is focusing on those who have said the collaboration is a bad thing without hearing the track. If that's not negative, then please enlighten me what is.

If it matters, every Kendrick/rap/hip hop discussion I've found on Reddit seems pleased/shocked at how much they like U2 on XXX.

Everyone on reddit is in love with XXX. I think it will do great if it's a single. I'm going to assume SOE might have more collaborations. Songs like this and the troubles are what can put u2 back "on the map"

Right. It'll be interesting how U2 plays this with SOE.

Lots of praise for the "beat" aka Larry Mullen in the second thread

Bono goes into his Sinatra mode, nice chorus.

Liked the Larry beat in the second half of the song.

More worth their while than the entirety of SOI and NLOTH if we're talking musical relevance (though I do like both those albums).

XXX is amazing, best song on DAMN. Which is mostly thanks to Kendrick and his producers, obviously, but U2's feature is great and definitely adds to it.

Offensive, disgusting.

What is offensive about someone expressing frustration about all the guns in their culture and the fact that people they know have been shot? Is it because they used the n word?

Not my thing and i didn't like it at all. Hopefully it's a one-off and we never hear U2 in a rap song again.

I think this is probably the single coolest/best collaboration U2 has done in 20 years. In my opinion Kendrick Lamar is one of the most important voices in America right now so knowing that our guys are collaborating with him instead of (insert cheesy pop act here) makes me heart happy.

Offensive, disgusting.
Care to elaborate on either of those brilliantly articulated thoughts?
