tbh i dont think theres a jarring noticeable transition between 2017 to 1987 Bono. there's really not. and listened on headphones.

It is nicely done, but yeah...that's obviously 1987 Bono in the chorus and "love , slowly stripped away" bit.

yea sorry i dont think its "obvious". it really does sound like current Bono.

i also just realized this song suffers from Overly Long Title Syndrome. Red Hill Town is more suiting.

It for sure doesn't sound like the original '87 take. Could be an alternative take from back then though.

I like it. Better than original? No. Good? Yes. Nothing mind blowing, but not bad. Can't wait to see it live.

BTW I absolutely love the outro, awesome ending. The outro may be better than the original.

Not sure it'll be played live, maybe that's why he didn't redo the chorus.

I love the outro with a stronger emphasis on the strings and the addition of the background vocals.  This provides a more powerful climax to the end of the song when compared to the original version.

The old vocal on the chorus and outro are definitely from a different/unused take.

I like it, but differences between old and new bono are very apparent.

Actually it's fine, but I don't see the point. It's not different enough to have been needed.

disagree. if the brass section really was "buried in the mix" then them bringing it out is a def. must do.

I really like it. The choruses are definitely different vocals from the original album version but they don't sound like Bono's voice today so I agree with others that they've probably from another vocal take Bono did at the time. It's strange that they didn't record a version with the choruses sung much lower as I don't see how Bono is going to sing it like this live on tour! It would have made more sense to record a new version with Bono singing the choruses an octave lower and have fans get used to this new version before they get to hear Bono sing it like that live! Anyway, whatever the case I like this new version a lot. It has a fresh sound to it. Good production.

This song. I think unfortunately the chorus is out of his range now, and I remember reading that the reason that hey didn't okay it during the JT stour is that it was too taxing on his voice.

I just wonder if the chorus is out of Bono's range these days? Perhaps we could discuss that and try to come to a conclusion...

That was weird haha.

Somehow, I don't know if it's because I'm used to the original, but some parts sounded disjointed to me, almost like out of tempo, and I'm not talking about the new brass section. Maybe it's just my first impressions, but overall the new version is fine. I probably like the original better, but it's a song I don't like very much, to be honest, my least favorite from The Joshua Tree (and I love TJT). For me, BTBS, IGC and RTSS would be better singles.

wait i think you missed something. they're doing the full album. they released a new mix of this song as a promo for it's appearance in the set.

this trailer will help clear it up..
