Kind of underwhelming for me.

Not the original of course, but I like it just fine. The live version is the one I'm most looking forward to.

I'm floored. Didn't think bono could pull this off, he sounded incredible.

I gotta believe he can hit the chorus...I mean, they can't skip the song on tour...so what does he do, tune it down a few keys, or sing against a recording?

Let's not overreact here, guys. Bono is just yelling the chorus as usual.

That was weird haha.

Somehow, I don't know if it's because I'm used to the original, but some parts sounded disjointed to me, almost like out of tempo, and I'm not talking about the new brass section. Maybe it's just my first impressions, but overall the new version is fine. I probably like the original better, but it's a song I don't like very much, to be honest, my least favorite from The Joshua Tree (and I love TJT). For me, BTBS, IGC and RTSS would be better singles.

All songs on TJT could have been released as singles. The exception being Mothers, which I like.

'One Tree Hill' was a bit long & 'Exit' a bit bleak for radio. But 1987 was U2's year & they both would have been hits.

I like it, a lot. Probably not as raw and forceful as the original, but a solid reworking and definitely nothing to cringe at.

I like it. Better than original? No. Good? Yes. Nothing mind blowing, but not bad. Can't wait to see it live.

BTW I absolutely love the outro, awesome ending. The outro may be better than the original.

Not sure it'll be played live, maybe that's why he didn't redo the chorus.

huh? you mean this version or it wont be played at all on the JT live tour?

tbh i dont think theres a jarring noticeable transition between 2017 to 1987 Bono. there's really not. and listened on headphones.

It is nicely done, but yeah...that's obviously 1987 Bono in the chorus and "love , slowly stripped away" bit.

yea sorry i dont think its "obvious". it really does sound like current Bono.

It for sure doesn't sound like the original '87 take. Could be an alternative take from back then though.

yea someone else mentioned it could be a diff. take

This song. I think unfortunately the chorus is out of his range now, and I remember reading that the reason that hey didn't okay it during the JT stour is that it was too taxing on his voice.
wait i think you missed something. they're doing the full album. they released a new mix of this song as a promo for it's appearance in the set.

this trailer will help clear it up..

note 32 seconds

Yeah. Missed that one. Sweet, the live version should be interesting!

*shrugs* Unless he found some Viagra for vocals, no way is that current Bono in the chorus (hanging on...) and "love, slowly stripped away" ending. Also remember Lillywhite tweeted Bono only re-recorded the verses. Which are most definitely current Bono.

It would be cool if they did a R&H mini encore.

The last 30 seconds of the song is definitely NOT from the original 1987 vocals.  Any thoughts as to whether the ending is 2017 vocals, or some other unused take from years ago?

I thought they are new vocals - the repeated "you're all that's left to hold on to....". I'm not sure though.
