Good piece. I laughed at the one comment...something about not really liking Bono.
I personally like him "okay, fine", but will admit that I have always called their live stuff "The Bono Show".
Anyway...good article, thanks for posting.

Best comment: "Yeah, lets face it.  They're no Ed Sheeran."

I don't know how can someone put Into The Heart alone into a list without An Cat Dubh.

I thought it was gonna be the usual bloodbath, but I see mostly positive/constructive comments!
Perhaps Guardian readers, contrarily to someone else, have still all of their neurons intact.

Generally speaking the guardian tends to attract people with the ability to express at least semi   cogent and well written opinions.....I of course am one of the exceptions to that norm.

That was kinda disappointing.  I guess its one person's opinion. All subjective. For me

Gloria
Pride
In God's Country
God Part II
All I Want is You
Even Better than the Real Thing
Until the End of the World
Lemon
Beautiful Day
Moment of Surrender

I've been waiting for a top 10 of U2 from The Guardian for months. Can't complain at NYD and Bad getting in but on the whole, not enough 90's. And if you must choose something from October, make it Gloria!

The comments are interesting and remind me how varied people's opinions are on what exactly the best of U2 is. I still can't help thinking that when someone picks on a particular period, they are projecting themselves. Maybe that first album or the first 3 albums or the first half of the 90's was when the listener was most hungry and interesting. And then they found their place in life and settled.

Generally speaking the guardian has gone right down the pan in recent years.  Agree with you though that the comments are more fun than the list itself.  Love the embellished story about Kirsty Maccoll sequencing the album in order of her personal preference for each individual track.

The comments sections of most U2-related articles tend to be brutal, although often full of funny jokes. This one was no different.

I don't at all agree with this list, but props to Guardian for reaching a little deeper into the discography with some of the choices.

While I'm not sure my ten of the best list would include those specific songs, I do think yours is much better than the Guardian's list.
