TJT tour: 4/30/87, Pontiac Silverdome

TJT 30: sitting this one out; waiting for SOE tour instead.

I heard some Toronto businessman bought the Silverdome for half a mil.

Yep. And then he sold the property a year or two ago for $30 million.

Original TJT tour I saw at Wembley Arena and Wembley Stadium - all shows were in June 87.  This time I'm only going to one of the shows at Twickenham (also in June) as it's so expensive.  I think the Wembley Area show was about 10, and it cost about 14 to go to the stadium (seats or standing - same price).  In 2017 it's 80 to stand at the stadium and 100+ to sit.

Tickets for the Detroit show were $16.50. Seeing as the pound was worth between $2.25 and $2.50 back then (I think), y'all got took.   :P

Did you attend the original JT Tour, what was the date(s) and where?  Did you also or are you planning to attend TJT30?  What is the date(s) and where?  I am curious to see how closely the two dates align and if you will be seeing them at the same location, especially since some of those venues don't exist anymore and they are not touring the same locations.

Here are mine

Original - Oct 1 1987 - Montreal - Olympic Stadium
TJT30 - June 25, 2017 - Foxborough MA - Gillette stadium

So 30 years and 4 months apart as well as 350 miles apart

Original - November 15, 1987 - Oakland Stadium, Oakland California.
TJT30 - May 17, 2017 Levi's Stadium - Santa Clara, California.

FYI, for those that are interested, I wrote a little post about it last summer. It's a three-part piece entitled, When I Became A Fan.  I'd love to know your thoughts.  I always found when someone became a fan as intriguing as why.

1987: I was 14-15 and my parents were like LOLNOPE
2017: Rose Bowl May 20 with my husband, who WAS at the OG L.A. shows.  I am an L.A. native so it hurts a little to have missed the 87 concerts, but I am SO grateful to attend this show along with our 14 year old son.

I'm from OC and I did get to see the 11/17/87 show (I was also 14), but I'm bummed I missed them at the sports arena that April.

I saw the original tour in Pontiac and also in Cleveland.  Such great memories!  Will see them again in Cleveland this time around.  Can't wait!

I am younger than the original tour, so I didn't see that one, but I will be going to this one with my dad who saw the first TJT tour twice.  It's a sweet story.

His love for U2 began when a guy he knew who helped run the Orpheum theater in Boston where he would play let him sneak in at age 15 to see this "wicked new band from Ireland."  That was November 14th, 1981.  That gig was organized and recorded by WBCN, a Boston radio station that pushed U2 hard and helped them break into the States.  A pretty good quality recording of this show exists online now: You are not allowed to view links. He saw U2 in Boston again at the Centrum on the 3rd of May, 1987 on the Joshua Tree Tour and again on the second leg of the American tour at Boston Garden September 17th.  There were cameras at his show, and he saw Rattle and Hum the first showtime available and again the same weekend.

Hasn't seen them since, but, 30 years later, I'm taking him to the Washington D.C. show June 20th.
