Best 10 seconds of a U2 song
« on: May 05, 2017, 05:31:32 PM »
Gloria - When Edge lays into the riff after the bass solo, and Bono belts GLORIA leading to the epic ending

Ultraviolet
- I remember when we could sleep on stones, now we lie together in whispers and moans

Elevation - UNDERRATED BRIDGE.  Love lift me up out of these blues, won't you tell me something true, I believe in you

Great shout. I also love the digital wristwatch sound going on before Bono first joins into the song.

I'm a sucker for his little Irish jangly guitar solo on crazy tonight.  Not a top tier moment.  But I picture the dwarf from the Safety Dance video and the Hobbits dancing in the Shire to it with pure joy on their faces.

1:58-2:08 of Until the End of the World when the guitar sweeps across both channels as it enters the guitar solo.

A few from me:

The first hit of and subsequent fuzzy guitar riff in Discotheque

The section in DYFL of:

Love's a bully pushing and shoving
In the belly of a woman
Heavy rhythm taking over
To stick together
A man and a woman
Stick together
Man and woman
Stick together

And including where Bonos voice is then heavily distorted/repeated

The opening of Acrobat

The big riff part in Miami

The opening of Mofo

This section of EPAA:

See say you're sad and reach by
So say you're sad above beside
Oh stay you're sad over midnight
So stay sad above we said

The transition of An Cat Dubh into Into The Heart

Good question and plenty to choose from (and it's very hard to limit it to 10 seconds):

I basically love Edge and what he does in All I Want Is You from 3:06 to 4:30, but I especially love 4:18 to 4:30, technically 12 seconds, my apologies hehe.

Gone - I understand Bono's vocals weren't up to par, but I still love them and how on earth they went with the take on The Best Of compilation is beyond me.  But the section from 3:12 to 3:22, the "Goodnight, it's emotional" always gets me.

The entire outro of Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me, but this whole song is brilliant, and hard to just pick 10 seconds hehe.  Sexy Bono.

The Ground Beneath Her Feet - "Where there is only love" part during the bridge.  I suppose I really like when Bono goes for it with his vocals.

So Cruel - "Between the horses of love and lust" at like 3:32, and those strings...just gorgeous.

And this one is particularly random, because while I'm not a huge fan of the album (though parts of it have grown on me over the years), Edge's solo on Crumbs From Your Table after Bono does the "Where you live should not decide..." part.

I'm working out to POP, and you can take 10 seconds from ALMOST any song on there, and it will be the best!

Streets 10 secs of intro part (guitar obviously) deeply touches my soul. I still get shivers whenever I listen to this.
New Year's Day first 10 secs had taken U2 to another level. Legendary.
Zoo Station first 10 secs took us all to another world. The world of the best albums on earth. Who would expect that after ZS you would have one song better than the other.
