I disagree with everything, save All I Want Is You and Hawkmoon 269.

Moment of Surrender is a JT B-Side on steroids.

-Heartland, Hawkmoon are the strongest contenders

-Indian Summer Sky, Wild Honey, A Man and a Woman, One Step Closer have some JT DNA

You really painted with a broadbrush. But I like the subject.  I think you can find little JT splices here and there

Thanks. I had considered including Indian Summer Sky and One Step Closer.

It was interesting, in a recent interview U2 where asked which songs they would have liked on TJT, Bono said Pride, Edge said Heartland and I think Adam said Walk to the Water, can't remember what Larry said!

I tend to think you can't include R&H tracks as contenders as they were most likely TJT scraps and written during the same sessions.
I believe that TJT 'sound' is the 'u2 sound' as it was when they truly became a unique sounding band (onviously there was glimpses of this on prior albums leading up to this era) and after the largely successful dance music exploration) the sound of the band that followed was them being more stripped down and basic.  just MHO.

I know it is a cover, but Everlasting Love fits well into the mix.  I would like to see them break that out, at least as a snippet.

I know some will disagree but I'd say Ultraviolet is one of them.

Hmmm.  More difficult to do than one would think.

"MLK" -- probably because it goes so smoothly into "Streets"
"Heartland" -- probably the ONE song that I could plug into The Joshua Tree, as it currently stands, and it'd fit right in
"The First Time" -- I could see this making sense thematically, spiritually, and sonically
"Beautiful Day" -- isn't that what they were sort of going for?
"One Step Closer" -- sure...
"White As Snow" -- maybe...
"Iris" -- perhaps, but there's a certain magic or something missing in this song...

I'd say that only "Heartland" would fit seamlessly on here.  Imagine a Joshua Tree album with "Heartland," "Luminous Times," and "Walk to the Water" instead of a couple of the others on the B side.  Hmmm....

"Heartland" would make a great concert opener.

in case anyone here may not know, i sure didn't forever, but Heartland was recorded during JT session and was excluded in favor of TTYW to add more energy to the 2nd side of JT. Also, in regards to your "alternate tracklist" try this ...
