... we need something more colorful. The last four albums have all had B&W covers....

With the exception of October and all 3 '90s albums, every single photograph used on a U2 album cover has been black and white.

Yup. I feel like album covers have always been an afterthought for U2... especially with Songs of Innocence and How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb. With those albums, it just feels as if U2 slapped something together at the least minute. Black and white covers are easy.

I mean, realistically, I'm sure U2 spend a bit of time deciding on a cover. The aforementioned Songs of Innocence cover does have some symbolic relevance. The same can be said for Boy, War, No Line On the Horizon... well, just about any B&W-covered album that isn't Atomic Bomb.

Black & white is very Irish.

I thought it was a photo of young Bono and Ali.

Yeah, I'm doubting this is the album cover. More likely to be the back or perhaps part of the inner booklet art.

that's the thing. why does it "have" to be any of those things? i mean i wasnt at the show, but i haven't heard the band made mention of it being the cover/inner art/back cover etc...

I guess the logic is that, because they played a new song (which Bono said would be on SoE) and then showed that photo at the end, people assumed the two were connected--i.e. that photo is the album cover or maybe the single cover for the song.

Unless it's released as a single right now (which it won't be), it won't be a single cover. Singles rarely have covers anymore unless they're standalone or they get a physical release.

i get that but i still think it's flimsy. in other words i wouldnt be surprised if that photo has nothing to do with the alleged "SOE" that we still can only hope is coming out.

Black & white is very Irish.

I thought it was a photo of young Bono and Ali.

Good observation. When Irish people communicate with each other they send photos of their children.

Like Christmas cards and stuff. Always the children. So this cover is typical.
