Famous people you have seen at a U2 show
« on: May 13, 2017, 06:19:58 PM »
I just posted on another thread that I had spotted someone famous at a U2 show.  So I thought it would be interesting to hear if anyone has found themselves in the vicinity of a well known person (celebrity, sports person, politician etc) at a show - either in the auditorium or around the concourse (NOT backstage ;))

I'll start with 2005 night 2 Manchester on Vertigo tour, when I sat next to Gary Speed (in the nosebleeds!) who was an English Premier League footballer at the time, playing for Bolton Wanderers.  He went on to manage the Wales national team, before his untimely death by misadventure in 2011.

Does getting Adam's autograph count? Gosh, it's been two years, and I'm still completely mind-boggled over it! What a thrill.

Hey, 73October, I wonder why your Gary Speed was up in the nosebleeds...poor guy...you would think that someone like that could get better seats, right??? lol

riffraff - I've been thinking that for the last 12 years.  TBH, he was pretty subdued throughout most of the show and livened up for Beautiful Day, which was funny at the time because it was the signature tune for the Premier League highlights TV show on a Saturday night in the UK.  He left before the end of the show.

Strange...just the words "left before the end of the show", when talking about U2, are beyond my comprehension.

Apparently Jared Leto and the Foo Fighters were at the I+E show in Toronto that I went to.

Also, Neil McCormick was the the 360 Pittsburgh show since he and @U2 held an event the night before.

That's pretty cool.  Were they the more expensive seats?

Jimmy Page, Red Zone, London on the 360 tour. I saw this little guy with white hair in front of us. I said to my mother-in-law, "Is that Jimmy Page?" "Who?" (she is ignorant like that). "Guitarist from Led Zeppelin." "Ooh, I will shake his hand then!"

Anyway, he moved on shortly afterwards as more people recognised him.

I didn't quite see them, but I learned shortly after the show ended that Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and I think Cameron Diaz were at the Foxborough 360 show I attended in September 2009.  I think this was around the time he was shooting Knight & Day in Boston with Diaz.
