I predict that there will be two more albums SOE and then SOA which will get a name change because the band never stays on course.  After that they will retire after a long worldwide tour.  Because there is a lot of material in their vault, there will be plans in place to eventually release it all over the course of many years and many albums.  During the process of releasing the first of these unreleased material albums, Edge will go back to the studio attempting to remix and polish the songs some more which will lead to the band coming back into the studio with him and out of that, an album of new material will ultimately be released.  There will eventually be more albums of unheard/previously abandoned songs, but only after Bono and Edge ultimately leave this Earth, will it be released in the form it was left in.

cant see them announcing a "retirement". i see them going the Pink Floyd route and jsut no longer tour. Or the Zeppelin route and stop touring with the occasional big reunion show.

And what is the difference between retiring and stop touring?
I'd rather have live concerts with the same stuff then new releases but not more
"live U2".

I think SOE followed by a supporting tour could be their last.  I think a lot of it comes down to how the album is received.  There's no doubt that they're still a huge concert draw and can still put on a great show, but the last 2 studio albums have been met with a variety of lukewarm reactions from different audiences.  NLOTH was fairly well received critically, but didn't get the commercial performance they wanted and the fans were somewhat divided.  SOI had a lukewarm critical reception and seems to have divided the fanbase.  I think both are excellent albums, but did either of them really draw anyone new into the U2 fold?

It's obvious they're having difficulty getting material to a point that they're comfortable with releasing it and that can only go on for so long before they call it quits.

Once they retire we'll get several albums from the vault.

I'd say SOE - obviously - and I still think SOA, with Lanois and Eno on board, will happen. I would not rule out AB30 tour either.

Would not bet on anything more...I guess a good sitdown will happen in 2020 as to the future of the band.

I think this could be the swan song, maybe SOA at a push but that'll be it.

The little things is a huge clue. I want edges ultraviolet type guitar work to go on forever on this song, I never want it to end but it does. It's a really emotional song, can't wait for the studio version.

I'm not expecting more than two, including experience . They're on a high with stadiums right now, so they'll come back to it after E+I for whatever new album, SOA or not. Then I'm guessing that's it, until they have one last Greatest Hits tour. Greatest Hits for u2 used to be something unimaginable, but not anymore since JT
