The latest on Adam's court case against the former PA. I think he should get the money and donate it to Hurricane Sandy relief!


Adam Clayton back in the High Court over New York apartment

U2 bassist Adam Clayton wants to be paid the proceeds of sale of an apartment in New York bought by his former personal assistant Carol Hawkins with his money, the High Court heard. The case will be heard early next year.
 
Last July, Ms Hawkins was sentenced to seven years in prison for stealing €2.8m of Mr Clayton's money after she
was convicted at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 181 counts of theft, committed over a four-year period.

Mr Clayton of Danesmoate Demesne, Kellystown Road, Rathfarnham, Dublin, claims that in 2007 the apartment was bought by Ms Hawkins with his money for $465,000. The property, at 300 Rector Place, New York, was subsequently sold and it is understood that a sum of approximately €190,000 is held in a bank account which was frozen by court order.

Mr Clayton's lawyers previously obtained a number of freezing orders against Ms Hawkins, preventing her from dissipating certain assets pending the outcome of the criminal proceedings against her.

Today, Eamonn Marray Bl for Mr Clayton, told Ms Justice Mary Laffoy that now that those proceedings have been concluded, his client was seeking to be paid the money that has been kept in the account that has been frozen since 2010.

However, in a seperate but related matter, Ms Hawkins's lawyers are seeking to be paid legal fees out of the money contianed in the account.

Frank Beatty Bl for Ms Hawkins, of Crannagh Road Dublin 14, told the court there was an agreement that their legal fees would be paid out of the monies held in the account.

Counsel added that there was some legal issues between the two sides concerning the orders made by the High Court in 2010.

Ms Justice Laffoy adjourned the hearing of the matter to early February, after both sides accepted it was not urgent.
