"At the End of the World" really is the U2 bible.

I got my paperback copy in 1996 and carried it everywhere. That thing was so worn out after 18 years of use that I took it apart and scanned the pages into the computer to be able to read it using my Kindle.

Actually I'm trying to read U2 At The End Of The World now... I am finding it overwhelming, sluggish and dated.

U2 by U2 I think is great.

LOL. Truly. It's "dated" because it was written in the early 90's, but I think it might be the most insightful book into how the band worked at their peak. My copy is the original hardcover--beat up and sun-faded, but still essential.

U2 By U2 is fine in small doses--I've read several segments on the different albums/eras--but is interminable to read as a narrative, and really only conveys what the band WANTS to convey. I think they tend to create their own mythology.

U2 by U2 and Bono in Conversation.  Great books to dip in and out of and also very informative - I hope I can use the word 'truthful' here.

I loved At The End of The World first time I read it but struggled with it when went back to read it again more recently. Really like U2 By U2 as covers such a broad time period.

A left field choice is Killing Bono. It isn't quite a U2 book but follows Neil McCormick's attempt to become a rock star himself and how he would keep in touch with Bono and U2 and see them go to super stardom whilst struggling himself. it is very well written and pretty funny stuff. Neil was one of Bono's best friends and would become a journalist who favourably follows U2.

The movie that was made was pretty disappointing so definitely read the book instead and if you only saw the movie, you should go and read the book.

i thought the movie was fine, especially since i didn't know the real story and had no idea what the outcome would be for Neil.

Have to agree with Bill Flanagan's "At the end of the world"
But if you like a more indept study of U2 in the early 90's i can recommend John Waters - Race of Angels: The Genesis of U2

I agree, both books complete each other.
