How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb - playlist
« on: June 21, 2017, 12:22:15 PM »
From time to time I like to take an era of U2s music and create a playlist for that era.  I recently gave the HTDAAB era a spin as it had been a while since I listened to it.

Here is my playlist.  Imagine something like this on a future remaster with a bunch of discs or vinyl.  I recognize some of the songs are from before and after the album.  But I think they fit.  Please share your own playlist creations.

the COBL radio edit is on the single, but the Hot Chip remix is on Artificial Horizon, the fan club only cd.

There sure are a lot more tracks from this period than I would have thought.  My "deluxe" version of this album in iTunes only has a small handful of tracks, in including Neon Lights and Smile.  This was the album I stopped chasing the singles for, and only even got those tracks through iTunes years after the fact.

Anytime Electrical Storm is added to a playlist I agree...one of my all time favorite u2 songs. Especially the William Orbit remix.

This does bring up a good point, though: if folks are re-sorting stuff in iTunes to include extra songs on the albums, how do they sort songs like this?

I only just added HMTMKMKM to my Zooropa "2nd disc", along with In the Name of the Father.  It kinda/sorta fits--it obviously was originally written during the Zooropa sessions, but is produced quite a bit differently than the album, and is much more "rock" than the album.  (In the Name of the Father actually seems to fit better, in a way.  That 1936 Olympic drum loop being used on the tour intro helps.)  I've not bothered to re-sort the "new" songs on the 80-90 and 90-00 sets, though I suppose they all could find homes with other albums--the new mix of Sweetest Thing could find a home on ATYCLB, or even Pop.  Oh, and I finally decided to put Window In the Skies and one of its b-sides on HTDAAB.

i base it on when it was recorded. or, with ES for example, i remember Bono going on and on about how it was such a great song that didnt make ATYCLB and was gonna be a single, then was released as a single Oct 02, only 2 months before we got THTBA. i basically use this as, roughly, my guide. from lead singles release to the release of next album's lead single is one "era". in this case, i'd include Sweetest Thing/TGBHF/ES/THTBA as ATYCLB. THTBA is arguably ATYCLB, being released in Dec 02. i mean it was released 2 years before HTDAAB.  were as i see Beat on the Brat <released in 03 apparently, havent thought of that song in over a decade> as HTDAAB.

i hope that makes some kind of sense. yes HMTMKMKM and ITNOTF were Zooropa.

The fact that you can read "Kiss Me Kill Me" on the cover of Zooropa (the purple letters are song titles) lends credence to this idea.
