I am sure Bono will squeeze in a "The world needs more Canada" quote. Can anyone authenticate if he created this?

I don't think it is solely a Bono quote.  Just recently noticed a big sign in the window of the recently renovated Indigo Store (formally Chapters) in Ancaster.  It says "THE WORLD NEEDS MORE CANADA", it trademarked saying and a book by Heather Reisman.

But that aside, I am sure Bono will say it.

As far as acts on the Hill, there are lots of Canadian acts, but not too many "big" acts.  I am sure they tried to get some of the larger Canadian acts, but their schedules may have been full, or they just could not do it.  I actually think Nickleback is already committed for July 1st.

I do not have a problem with a Non-canadian act performing.  In the case of U2, it is only ONE song, not an entire show.  They are coming to congratulate us on being 150 years.  U2 and Canada's values are similar.

So if they can get Nickleback, I am sure there is plenty of room on the schedule, it goes for 12 hours.  U2 is on at Noon.

U2 members Bono and the Edge are donating their time as a "birthday present to Canada" and will not be paid a performance fee for appearing at Canada 150 celebrations on Parliament Hill July 1, a spokesperson from Canadian Heritage says.

"The government of Canada is not paying U2 for their Canada Day performance," Natalie Huneault said in an email to CBC News Wednesday.

"Bono and the Edge wanted to mark the occasion with Canadians and are donating their time as a birthday present for Canada 150," Huneault said, calling it a "great pleasure" for Canada to hosting the duo on Parliament Hill.

Huneault was not able to say whether the government was covering any expenses for the Irish rockers.

U2, which also includes Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr., are in the midst of a world tour and are due to play Cleveland later that night.

The department announced last week that Bono and the Edge would perform one song at the Canada 150 festivities in Ottawa. The song choice was not announced.

The duo joins Gordon Lightfoot, Alessia Cara and Cirque du Soleil for the Parliament Hill show, which will be broadcast live on CBC.

Me too! It's ridiculous how some radio station is petitioning for Nickelback to replace U2, just because Nickelback is Canadian, and U2 isn't.  So What! It's U2's gift to Canada. Thank you!

Poor quality recording of a TV, but Bono sounds freaking great. I watched the whole thing because of his amazing voice.

Thought Edge's guitar was a bit soft in the mix (maybe it was just the recording quality).

I'm sure U2 have the resources to do anything, but maybe Adam and Larry didn't perform at Canada Day because it involves too much crew to set up the drums. There is only 1 drum tech of Larry's!

Also, lmao at that canadia article. So terrified the government is "squandering" tax dollars to let U2 perform?? I'm guessing Bono & Edge were reimbursed for their plane & fuel, at least.
