It was its own scene.  The thing i took away from that scene was that Best actually played in the US which i never knew.

Yeah 57 goals in 150 appearances for Fort Lauderdale Strikers and LA Aztecs between '77 and '81

was he also in San Jose? Sorry, i know its just a wikipedia check away.  thought the scene in T2 was great- especially when they do the slide on their knees. i've watched the film 4 times in the last 5 days.

I can't find any reference that says the song is about George Best.  The book, U2 Behind Every Song, doesn't even include the song and otherwise it has a lot of the b-sides.  Anyway, IMO the scene is only about Best and the joke they tell is not intentionally or unintentionally a reference to u2.

I think the reference was an urban legend and U2 as well picked up on that.

His name appears in the lyrics to "In The Name Of The Father", but that's the only U2 connection I see.
