BAH! I was hoping they dropped TBTAMIY.

Not only is it a lame pop song - it also gives Eamonn Dunphy a shout out

Oh, you’ve heard it? Or are you judging it off a year-old remix?

So glad to see them keep this song around. U2 do modern pop better than anyone imo. I love to see this on the album because it can create the perfect dynamic of songs.

That is a very interesting take on things 'u2 do modern pop better than anyone'..... what songs would you use as examples of this?

Interesting....i wouldn't necessarily call them modern pop myself but that is just opinions i suppose.

They aren't songs i appreciate personally but that is just different tastes.

These new song titles beg for a Real Thing, Best Thing, and Little Thing set during the next tour.

I don't consider it a remix. Because that kygo performance last year was not a remix. It's a EDM Dj event. A lot of people aren't getting that. It's like when you go clubbing. The dj will play over a song and add their own effects and repeat parts of the song/mix it. They're doing it live to the studio tracks. What we heard last year was the beach clip just being DJ'ed at a event.

Kygo talked about the track earlier this year, saying u2 had it and didn't know what direction to take it in. He sent them back his mix which is the one we hear in the Beach House.

I consider those Pop rock. Not modern pop. Modern pop is more like Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber, ariana grande, etc.

Really?

The ears are a bit 'mr Spock', and to be honest, I see better looking women everyday in my town, and I don't live in a particularly large town.

How about the Kygo remix as a relevant example? We haven't heard an excellent recording, but his mix of best thing is a perfect example of superior modern pop.

Best Thing has at least 2 great melodic sections combined with bonafide feel-good lyrics.

The only way they could screw it up IMO is by slavishly sticking to the "four guys in a room" sound: it's a tune gagging for interesting production.

Case study: Electrical Storm (William Orbit single version) vs the Best of the 90s "band in a room" version. How much better was the single?!

A bit difficult to make a comparison before hearing the alternative band version?
Or is there some beach clip that reveals the four guys in a room treatment?

Doesn't actually matter to me anyhow, as the "best thing that ever happened to boy"  lyric is guaranteed to grate on me, as will the chorus. Unless they have changed that particular lyric and the melody, this isn't for me. therefore confident to base my views on a year old remix that was never actually released.

Agree on the electrical storm front... that is a classic example of why it can be perfectly ok to have an "over produced" sound.
