Do u2 rate their recent material?
« on: September 22, 2017, 11:53:55 AM »
On the last two tours they haven't played even one track from the previous album.
The albums being big hits shouldn't come in to it.

it doesn't bother me if they avoid No Line material.

The last two tours is the first time they have ever done that. Even "Gone" and "Dead man" we're played on the elevation tour.

Gonna pick a nit here, On I&E they played Magnificence, grant it was only once, but it was played in Amsterdam

On the 360 Tour they played, COBL, Vertigo, Mercy (Which some put under that umbrella)

So sure, it wasn't a lot, in the case of NLOTH tunes, not many an not frequent, but it was done.

TJT30 doesn't count for the sake of this argument in my opinion.  It is a different animal.

U2 spend such a long time to get new material out these days, seems quite bizarre that they just discard whole albums without playing just one track but that's the modern U2 now.

Ive got my fingers, toes and eyes crossed, that they will play The Troubles and California on the next tour. Not overly hopeful though

"SOON"  IS A PRIME EXAMPLE OF U2 NOT RATING THEIR BEST MATERIAL.

Well it wasn't really part of the album

I'm gonna guess that in the next tour they will play nothing from NLOTH, and just one song from SOI.  EBW is probably the top choice. I also won't be surprised if they play nothing at all from SOI.

I hope they won't overlook NLOTH and October completely.  Underrated gems.

I think the band knows, deep down, that the last song that will really make it into the true canon of U2's defining music is Vertigo (and probably COBL). Like, when the band is done and there's some definitive documentary about them, nothing they've done for the last 12 years will need to be included. Accept as maybe a footnote.

it should have been though. but they didn't see that and that's part of the problem. assuming of course it was done in time to put on the album.
