Love is all we have left
« on: December 18, 2017, 03:43:19 AM »
i have to say,,,,this has to be probably the most downbeat...if not most depressing opener...to a u2 album ever. this is a b-side at best or an obscure album track....i guess they wanted to go against type,,,,but meh i want to feel on a high like i did with discotheque, bd, vertigo,,,even NLOTH....

Definitely a change of pace.    I personally think it’s their best album opener in a LONG time.  Big fan of the song.

A powerful, top notch opener. My fave in a long while.

Don't like the song at all, let alone as the opener. I kept waiting for the song to get more cinematic and take off. Instead, it set a very odd, confusing way to set the tone. I like different, but not obscure...

My favourite on the album and I would dearly love an album of this sort of thing.

I think having this song as the opener is a stroke of genius. I love it. If they had opened with Blackout.....ugh.

I like it as an opener too - as a song construct it kind of reminds me of MLK which is why I can understand questions about it sitting as an opening track. For me it showcases Bono’s voice - the theme for the album for me. His ‘old’ vocal style is back in force me thinks.

This is my favorite song on the album. It was a very unusual opening track I agree.

I liked how they switched it up with this one as their opener.

"Love Is All We Have Left" sets up "The Lights of Home" perfectly, in my opinion.  It's also a beautiful song in its own right, with great lyrics.

I would like it if it wasn't a rip off of Comfortably Numb.

Out of all the songs on the album this is the one that gets stuck in my head the most. It's got a surprisingly catchy melody for such a low-key song.

I already predict that on tour it will segue into the intro for Streets. They fit together perfectly both sonically and lyrically.

That's a great idea, I'd love to hear that.

I love the song as well. Having a low-key opening song is surprising, however I think sets the tone perfectly for an album with a lot of upbeat songs, dealing with quite the bunch of serious topics.
A month since it's release, this album just doesn't stop to blow my mind. Without doubt their best in I don't know how long, imo.

I agree.  This is the most I've liked a new U2 album since "How to Dismantle..," and I liked SOI and a good chunk of "No Line.."
