Hmmm...

1/ NLOTH (criminally under-rated in this community. U2s most adventurous album in this period. will age well)
2/ ATYCLB ( I think we are all tired with a lot of it. but I think it deserves more respect. good memories of that tour too)
3/ HTDAAB ( I understand why people don't love it. i can remember it badly. but give it a chance again... )
4/ SOI ( strong album. with a bit of cheese )
5/ SOE ( lacks some kind of authenticity. something about this album are just rubbing me the wrong way.not awful )

I guess great minds think alike BalconyTV.  : )
I agree with the ranking and the complete analysis.  So I copied it.  If I'm playing music and those 5 are what I'm choosing from, then NLOTH get's played 1st every time. MAGNIFICENT!

No Line
SOI
Behind
Bomb

...not sure where to put SOE yet. It'll probably be battling Behind for that #3 spot.

Quality (in my opinion):
1. Songs of Experience
2. All That You Can't Leave Behind
3. Songs of Innocence
4. How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb
5. No Line on the Horizon

Reception:
1. All That You Can't Leave Behind
2. How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb
3. No Line on the Horizon
4. Songs of Experience
5. Songs of Innocence

I think it's interesting that the two best-received albums are the ones with the best first singles, not the albums that fans like best.  People say singles don't matter anymore, but I think they affect how the whole album is viewed even more than the album itself does in many cases.

ATYCLB (amazing first half....not so good 2nd)
NLOTH (never understood the dislike- even from the band itself-other than middle 3 issue)
SOI/SOE (too soon to decide- but SOI has the worst cover- wish they would have used the white one lol)
HTDAAB (some very good songs but doesn’t seem you be cohesive)
