One of my very favourite bands, Arctic Monkeys, are bringing out their 6th studio album on May 11th and its called... Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino.

Who's excited for this? And is anyone going to see them?

I've had very mixed feelings about their new album since it was released but it's grown on me. The main problem (for me) is the almost complete absence of melody on most of the tracks. Strong melodies have always been a strong part of their music for me. Also, I think some of the songs are a bit of a rip-off of Ziggy era Bowie, to the point where, if Bowie were still alive, I think he'd be suing them, lol!. Aside from that though it's certainly a change in direction for the band and I like when they try different sounds and styles.

So, not my favourite Arctic Monkeys album (that's Humbug) but it has grown on me, as I said, and I think Four Out Of Five is one of their best singles. Brilliant track.

As for seeing them live, I wish! Impossible to get tickets for their UK tour though. Can't find a single ticket online anywhere! Ah well, maybe one day I'll see them!

I'd actually really love to see Alex's side project group The Last Shadow Puppets too. Can't stop listening to them at the moment. He and Miles make great music together (and hilarious videos, lol!)

After my last post I'm so thrilled I've managed to get a ticket to see Arctic Monkeys next month! SeeTickets added a new batch for sale and I nabbled one! Pretty decent seat too, I'm ecstatic!

The new album has grown on me even more too. It's definitely an album that needs repeated listens as it's so multi-layered and some songs just stand out so much more after hearing them a few times. It's not an "instant" album, by any means. However, I often find that these are the albums that I end up loving more, for a lot longer, rather than albums I instantly like but grow bored with after a while. I can't wait to see/hear the band performing the new songs live. Going by the few live performances I've watched online, like their recent TRNSMT festival set, the new songs really seem to come alive in a live setting.

Roll on 9th September!!

This album has been the first AM album that I genuinely didn't like. Alex Turner is a brilliant lyricist and I appreciate what he was trying to do with a 1960s lunar lounge act, but the other fundamental part of AM is their ability to make a brilliant hook. This album has no hooks. Alex is able to make the stories sound perfect, but there's no music behind his stories. There's no art to back up his words. This is the first AM I have zero interest in, but I am super happy they're willing to try new things.

I have to agree with the criticisms of this album.  The melodies just aren't there.  I do like Star Treatment, Four Out of Five, and Ultracheese, though.

I'm off to see the band at the O2 in London tonight! I can't wait. I've never seen them live before so whatever they play, new or old, I'll be happy!
