This is just for fun. Any band could have that criticism because any group will have a "sound" and will never suddenly become unidentifiable. But no matter, I think our lads have pushed themselves into enough new sounds over the years that anyone with a mind not firmly closed would have to admit they have a really good range.

So, pretend you have the opportunity to convince someone with an open mind. Suggest a playlist that specifically highlights their range of sound. And think about the order so there is a large difference from track to track - not the time to go chronological or build a specific mood.

This thread was inspired by a poster who said they started on Zooropa and found it hard to understand the same band did JT when he or she moved back into the catalog. Boy, I can only imagine, only one album and 6 years between them, but what a change!

Very good list.  :D

The only suggestion I can think of is to add Two Shot of Happy, One Shot of Sad, and maybe Daddy's Gonna Pay For Crashed Car, in there. Otherwise, I like it!

Also, how about Still Haven't Found R&H gospel version?

I think I'd use Lights of Home instead of Angel of Harlem.

Daddy's Gonna Pay - yes. (Love the song; wish the lyrics weren't so creepy).

Unforgettable Fire also seems a bit different?

I'd swap Window in the Skies for The Showman.

Certainly. That song threw me off at first when I heard it, but now I love it. The Wanderer might be another possibility too. Hell, you could put about 80% of the Zooropa album on the type of playlist in question :P

That was actually my first thought. Re-arranger the order of course. Perhaps even better would be to list the one song on each U2 album that is most unlike U2's prior work. For Boy you would have to pick the track that was most unlike the rest on the album, the oddball of the album.

I can understand someone who only knew U2 since 2000 thinking they sound the same. But even amongst those 5 albums you can find quite different sounds fx. SLABT, Fez, LIAWHL, Vertigo, AMAAW, The Troubles. Quite a range of sounds.
