Interaction with audience in E+I?
« on: May 27, 2018, 02:10:25 PM »
Bono has made a career out of interacting with the audience - girls to "dance" with on stage, guitar players, handicam operators. And he also just plain reaches into the audience and touches hands, that sort of thing.

Is any of that happening this tour?

I think not in this tour. Not in Chicago 1 where I was,  not in Tulsa (watched it on YT), and not in St. Louis and Chicago 2 (listened to audio files).
Maybe it comes, but it hasnít happened so far.

Well, that's what I thought.

So why not? What do we think about this? Does it make a difference?

Not sure if this will hurt any fans feelings or not, but this ďfan runĒ GA line puts a lot of the same people at the rail, I do wonder if the band could get sick of the same old people being there?

Also the stage doesnít really lend itself to getting fans up there.

Spoiler Alert:  Edge and Adam have small risers in the RZ where they play pride.  So thatís fan interaction Iíd say.

Itís sort of dangerous these days to let random people up on stage so itís possible their security team has put a stop to it

They had people up on stage just last year. Looked to me like sometimes quite a few per show.

I'm not necessarily complaining, but it is quite different for them, isn't it?

I remember seeing quite a few complaints on the socials during I+E tour about 1) too much fan on stage slowing down the show, and 2) too many of the same people getting on stage. (people love to complain)

I suspect that with this tour, although the stage setup is the same, it is a lot more choreographed and theatre. Even though it isn't dancing or actual theatre, there are many moments where things are staged and the band members must get to their positions on time, more so than other U2 tours. That, and there is still a feeling that they are fine tuning before getting to the point where they feel comfortable playing around. (this last bit is far more theoretical, while the previous statement is fact, in that they must get into position many times on this tour)

Theyíll get to it and unfortunately, itíll be the same usual people onstage. It took them awhile to bring someone onstage for JT30 but once they did, it became more common. Beautiful day, best thing, and city of blinding lights are probably when itís most likely to happen.

But Iíd really prefer no fan interaction...

Hmm security reasons? At least in Chicago where I was the procedure of getting into the arena was almost the same as I would take a flight to the US... I don't know whether this is everywhere in the US? We had to go through scanning devices (I think metal scanners) without our bags, and these where checked during this time.
We don't do it like this in Europe.
The only danger could be the person itself.. there's a video of a girl on a previous tour on YT, and she wouldn't stop trying to kiss Bono on stage, and so he had to lead her off the stage (still in a very kind way)
