Rock Star Midlife Crisis?

Is it just me - or does bono seem to be going through the rock star equivalent of a midlife crisis? Thoughts?

I don't see that at all. They seem far more sure of themselves and confident than they were at some points in the 1990s or even the late 1980s. They are much smarter and wiser today.

Supporting evidence?

I think he had a crisis of fame around 1987-1993 or so. And then I think he did an incredibly rare thing and clawed his way back to sanity over time.

So I think the opposite. I think he's very grounded right now.

Interesting observation.   Must be tough coming up with a masterpiece like Love Is Bigger and not having the bulk of your audience even knowing the words to it.

He's a little old to be having a mid-like crisis now.  I agree that if he did have one, it probably occurred sometime after Pop and before ATYCLB.  He seemed to tone himself down a bit and got more serious after that- although 9-11 probably did that to everyone at that time.

Yeah, I thought the mid-life crisis would have been ATYCLB, maybe even up through NLOTH.  I think the moment you start writing material about your kids growing up or the death of your (elderly) parents, you're officially in "mid-life".

(I added the parentheses above since Bono's obviously been writing about the death of his mother from day one, but that's different.)

Yeah, Bono's well past mid-life.  I agree that he seems very grounded now.  I think his attitude is--been there, done that, let's get down to what matters.

I doubt that qualifies as a late mid life crisis.  All my friends in that age range still know how to go out and party when they feel like it.  I have a very fit friend in her late sixties who still backpacks around the world on her own simply because she can and she enjoys it.  Bono has always seemingly been a gregarious type of person.

Well, if he lives to be 120, then he hasn't technically reached mid-life yet. He is even younger if you look at mid-life as being the middle of your adult life starting with age 18.
