Which bands have the best shirts?
« on: August 01, 2018, 10:41:55 AM »
Personally, I find U2 shirts to be lacking.  I've never seen one that wowed me (though I own a couple).

I think Iron Maiden and Van Halen have produced some great shirts with the latter in their later stages.

Who else has great shirts?

Agreed. I own the only shirt I found cool, from Zoo TV: black, with star, baby, and Trabant in white, stacked vertically. It's completely dead, now.

Ah, I did like my One shirt, gorgeous shade of green, with a daisy. But it was 2 sizes too big for me, so I looked like a major slob wearing it, so I gave it away 19 years ago. To a Tanzanian, actually.

Their shirts aren't great.  I owned the original Joshua Tree shirt in white and liked that one.  Other than that I've bought a few but don't usually wear them often.  They also sell mostly large shirts that don't fit me well.

I think it’s related to how iconic their album art is. In U2’s case, I don’t think they’ve had a truly great, iconic album cover in a LONG time.

A band like Pink Floyd, though, has several iconic images to choose from. It’s a moot issue since they’re no longer around, but I think there’s a reason their imagery is still popular on t-shirt designs.

Sublime (original lineup) shirts are pretty cool.

I think a better graphic designer could make kick ass U2 t-shirts.

Ok, Dark Side of the Moon is an absolute top album cover.
Wish You Were Here, also iconic. That would be a lame t-shirt, though, if you just plopped it on a white t.
The Wall, not bad. Animals, meh. Etc.

U2 can certainly equal that line-up of covers.
The Joshua Tree cover and related art.
War cover and related art.
Both just iconic.
Zooropa cover was cool, and there was a goldmine of AB artwork.

So I think all the raw material is there. But just plopping a cover on a t-shirt doesn't usually make the most iconic t-shirts. (I'll give you Dark Side of the Moon.)

I think Depeche Mode have some cool shirts, the Black Celebration, Violator and Songs of Faith and Devotion album covers have made for some great tees (I own all 3 haha).

There's a People are People one that's good. It's very simple, but effective. Also, a Behind the Wheel logo one too.

I'd say The Cure, New Order, Rolling Stones (the tongue logo is legendary), The Who, AC/DC, Metallica, Guns n' Roses (and some more I'm likely forgetting) all have great tees that I've seen people wearing in public.

I would say Joy Division and the Beastie Boys.
I do like how u2 still sells their old style shirts on their site- even though they are priced outrageously.

Iron Maiden definitely has the best.

Mastodon has great shirts, too. Lots of metal bands do. Pantera, Slayer, etc..

I was thinking the other day, how its strange that a band of u2's stature, do not have any iconic T Shirts
