I don't know anyone who's noticed this so far, so...

On the CD version of the "best of 1990-2000", there is a short alteration in "Mysterious Ways", instead of "she sees the man inside the child", Bono sings "I know the question, she knows why" or something like that...

At first I thought maybe Bono had wanted to "soften" the song a little but he's known for changing his lyrics on stage and he never song that song that way, ever.

Also, this strange version only appears on that very CD, the i-tunes version of the song is the original one, same with the "18 singles" best of.

So...mix up error within the record company seems odd.

Also, I think that line is kind of lazy, I like the original much better.

Thoughts ?

I never could understand why they changed that one line. And the fact that it's only on that CD is strange. I'm sure it was just a mistake though if they changed it for the iTunes version.

We did some research and I remember writing about this in an old OTR. If I recall correctly, the version on the BEST OF 1990-2000 is an early version of the song, and Bono later changed that one lyric to the version that made it onto ACHTUNG BABY. I think there was a mixup in that U2 sent the wrong version for inclusion when the CD was being made....

The same audio track is used for the video on the BEST OF 1990-2000 DVD...
