Favorite lines from a U2 song?

I am most intrigued by the line from North and South of the River (as transcribed on the @U2 homepage):

"Can we stop playing these old tattoos?"

An odd turn of phrase, to be sure. It's almost like the song would be better if Bono had sung:

"Can we stop playing these altar tunes?"

But then, I am clearly bad at hearing U2 lyrics correctly, so....

I always sing that line as "Can we stop playing this ode to two?"...........Over to the Mysterious Whale thread now

i love these lines, too! 
more well suited to lots of us than we may think...
(ie:  the whole idea that sometimes it's a good idea to just shut up & listen... coupled with the fact that you can easily lose track of your own faults when you're busy criticizing others... many ways to read these - love that!)

Those lines really strike some chord in me for some reason...

Basically all of Ultraviolet, especially the beginning cause it makes me think of my own life

All of Walk on, and all of Kite is very emotional for me

I also love Streets, because for me it's about chasing freedom and finally reaching to your goals. (which I would love to do)
