I truly love the "see the" parts in Beautiful Day, though. They're so vivid : "See the tuna fleets clearing the sea out..."

Every line in Stay is so beautiful to me.

I can't change the world, but I can change the world in me.

For some reason the "spiral staircase to a higher ground" part in promenade always struck me.  I think that is some great imagery.

"Midnight is where the day begins." 

"No new ideas in the house and every book has been read."

"In dreams begin responsibilities."

"Carnival - the wheels fly and colors spin through alcohol - red wine that punctures the skin"

"In the wind we hear their laughter; in the rain we see their tears . . . . see their tears in the rainfall"

Oh and I almost forgot: "You hurt yourself you hurt your lover, then you discover what you thought was freedom is just greed" -- pretty much sums up my ex . . .

That song has enough odd lyrics, but for some reason I can look way past that because it absolutely ROCKS, especially live.

Back on thread topic, what about of "Sleep - sleep tonight, and may your dreams be realized".

Lots of good lines in 'So Cruel'-  'I'm only hanging on to watch you go down'
                                            'love like a screaming flower, love dying every hour'

Also- 'love is clockworks and cold steel, fingers too numb to feel.  Squeeze the handle, blow out the candle.  Love is blindness.'  Chilling.

my fave line that isn't in "Stay" would have to be, "Oh-you-look-so-beautiful-tonight"

Yes, "Stay" is amazing.  But my favourite U2 line would have to be "Midnight is where the day begins."  It's such a great line on its own, and in the context of "Lemon" it's that much more powerful. Most of the lyrics on Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby, and Pop are excellent as well.

It's up there with the Talking Heads line "There is water at the bottom of the ocean" for stating the obvious but still being clever.
