decided to revive this thread

Discotheque

You get confused, but you know it
Yeah, you hurt for it, work for it, love
You don't always show it - love.

The line I put in bold, I always sing it as.

You don't want a shower.  :D

some of my fave lines are some I mishear  :)

Awesome, I was waiting for someone to maybe do that.
How about this from "If God Will Send His Angels"-

Its the blind leading the blonde,
its the cops directing for the cons,
and where is the hope,
and where is the faith,
and the love---, whats that you say to me-
does love----, light up your chirtsmas tree,
the next moment, your blowing a fuse
and the cartoon network - turns into the news

Later: "Where do we go!?!?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!---(where do we go----)

Love that part of the song!  "Does love light up your Christmas tree?" has to be one of U2's best one-liners.  I like how in the single version they move this section to after the third verse.

"Can you remember me," -duh-nuh-nuh-nuh-nuh-nuh-nuh
"Oh, for eternity," -duh-nuh-nuh-nuh-nuh
"Oh, It's the only thing,
that I can sing,
just you and me,
together and free,
like king and queen,
together -      ---,
for eterrrnityyy"

Okay, well that was a completely random and obscure reference- not related to U2 at all so here's another-

"Everywhere you go, you shout it,
you don't have to be shy about it,"

"And you feel - like no one before,
you steal - right under my door,
and I kneel - because I want you some more, I want you some more, I want you some more,"

'Oh no, -    Oh no, -   Oh no, -  Oh noo-0OOoo-ooooo....." - Original of the Species

Haven't seen you in quite a while
I was down the hold, just passing time
Last time we met it was a low lit room
We were as close together as bride and groom

Until The End Of The World,  :).

My name is what?
my name is what?
my name is, chicka chicka, slim Bono!

I wish, but naw I'd have to go with:

You get to feel so guilty
Got so much for so little
Then you find that feeling just won't go away.
You're holding on to every little thing so tightly
Till there's nothing left for you anyway.

This lyric is so true, especially today when bands like Coldplay get famous by just copying U2, how easy is that!?

I like the line "I'm too lazy to lie" from Rejoice. It makes you stop and think "What?"

He can't be bothered to think about what he should say as a lie.  :P

"You've got to give it away,
You've got to give it away,
You've got to give it away,
You've got to give it away,
You've got to give it away,
You've got to give it away,
Well she don't care what it's worth,
She's living like it's the last night on Earth." -Last Night On Earth, ironically enough.

Those lyrics are so kickass, in Popmart Mexico.  8)

So Cruel has two that resonate:
We crossed the line
Who pushed who over
It doesn't matter to you
It matters to me

You put your lips to her lips, to stop the lie

From Lumious Times
I love you 'cause I need to, not because I need you
I love you 'cause I understand, God has given me your hand

I know this sounds morbid, but I've asked that if should ever die suddenly, Kite is to be played at my funeral because of these lines:
Who's to say where the wind will take you
Who's to say what it is will break you
I don't know which way the wind will blow
Who's to know when the time has come around
Don't wanna see you cry
I know that this is not goodbye

'And in the daylight
A blackbird makes a violent sight'

From An Cat Dubh

As a whole - I think the Pop album has the best collection of lyrics.

I'll see you again when the stars fall from the sky and the moon has turned red over One Tree Hill.

"Don't look before you laugh - look ugly in a photograph. Flashbulbs, purple irises the camera can't see."

"Every artist is a cannibal, every poet is a thief,
All kill their inspiration and sing about the grief."

"You glorify the past
When the future dries up
I heard a singer on the radio
Late last night
Says he's gonna kick the darkness
Till it bleeds daylight"

Pretty much all the lyrics of God Part II

"We're flowers in the mud, baby."

And all of Zooropa

I have to many, as we all do. But Im goin with 2 from one song that hit me pretty good when HTDAAB came out.                "Can you see the beauty  inside of me. What happen to the beauty I had inside of me."              "Time wont leave me as Iam, but Time wont take the boy out of this man." -COBL
